I disabled the micro switches yesterday and ran it thru on purpose to check back up!!!! All is good.. The key sheared as I planned. I always plan in three-s.. That way if first two fail there is always the AW—-Sh–T Back up.. The key was #2.. Bob

o-ring failure can be cause by surging when you hold steering hard turn/lock —if you feel surging in wheel back off=you are causing that plunger (by pass )to rapidly move in and out. It is hammering against the piece with the o-ring on it. Also a dirty filter in your power steering resivoil will starve the supply side of the pump causing it to cavitate causing a simular situation. FWIW Bob

    Tom,

There’s probably a few factors driving the slow start. My application is still sitting on my desk. I’m not hitting the road for a couple of weeks so I have time. Others may be doing the same.

I know it’s probably a regional thing, but I often find the truck stops to be way over priced. Yes, they are convenient and yes I use them, but I probably use local stations more often. Sure, if covering a lot of distance is my goal, then I’ll stop at the truck stops. Often when I arrive at a CG or overnight location I scope out the local stations with GasBuddy and drive by the least expensive ones on the way to dinner. Take for example the nearest truck stops near where I live. The Love’s at exit 358 in Ocala is selling Diesel now for $449 (ouch!). The Pilot/Flying J at the same exit has a price of $459. The BP just down the street is $3.899. Yet at exit 301, where there are no truck stops the fuel is $3.799. That’s ahuge difference. I see this all the time in Florida, but not in every state.

There’s also the credit card factor. Many of use use credit cards for everything. My card provides a 5% rebate on fuel purchases. I believe the “other” truck stop program allows me to use my credit card and pay 3 cents less than the cash price.

I’m sure there may be other factors and time may be a big one. Be patient, it’ll catch on.

Have no fear Harvey. Most of the few remaining POG members are on here as well so Jamie is only hurting those few who are new and haven’t found their way here. Thanks for the effort however. Sorry about getting booted off.

    Dan,

Fred’s information is correct. It could actually be a problem with the equalizer so it is best to verify if the problem is the monitor or the equalizer, sooner rather than later.

If it turns out to be the monitor you can pull the wire for imbalance from the monitor to make the balance light on the dash go out until you can replace the monitor. A lot of us have had issues with the monitor. Perhaps Vanner will comp you one because they have to be aware of the unreliability.

thanx all for what you’re able to come up with so far.I have a schematic sent by one of “US” CC’s but it is very hard to read (blurred) ,so I am reaching out to CCI with $$$ to see what they may come up with. This is a good example for all of us with coach’ nearly as old as Jon , but, this will become my search for complete schematics. I have a good set of CC instructions for the bus,but lacking many of the schematic.

Perhaps Tom and I need to keep everyone aware of our objectives with PC.

First, let me give some history. When I bought my first coach in 1990 there was no internet as we know it and the only way to learn about Prevost conversions or meet other owners was to belong to FMCA and join the Prevost Proud chapter. It was a great opportunity for owners because as the only Prevost group the Prouds put on pre-FMCA convention rallies and attendance at them was as high as 200 coaches.

Because of the significant number of Prevost owners and coaches in one spot (at the rallies) we owners had the opportunity to meet many other owners, mornings were usually very high quality seminars put on by Prevost and usually included suppliers such as Detroit Diesel, Allison, Michelin, etc. Converters all showed up with coaches for sale and their semis to do on the spot service and repairs. Prevost usually had a service facility nearby as well.

Afternoons and evenings were usually for socializing. The quality of information and support was unmatched because everyone that supports our coaches could justify the expense of being there because of the great number of coaches.

But all that changed when different social groups started being created. While the Prouds were still a factor their rallies were no longer 200 coaches strong. Other social groups which catered to various interests were formed and pretty soon there were many, many rallies, but none large enough to represent all the social groups or justify the support given to the earlier Prouds rallies.

Tom and I created PC to encompass all Prevost enthusiasts from all social groups and with diverse interests ranging from motorhome conversions, homebuilders and even entertainers. Our objective was and still is to be the common place for all owners to get technical information and support AND NOT TO COMPETE WITH THE VARIOUS SOCIAL GROUPS BUT TO SUPPLEMENT THEM.

Nothing has changed in our thinking or objectives. In fact we did not want to create PC. We asked if Prevost-Stuff could become the vehicle to accomplish what we hope to accomplish here, but the owner refused. He was not a Prevost owner but ran the site as a commercial venture so he did not understand how we as owners would benefit by having a site dedicated to the support of owners with information and the ability to share support. When he refused to do what we thought was needed we created PC.

As to the cost of membership, this site exists and is supported by our advertisers. We have a great bunch of well respected folks who pay us to place ads on this site and it is because of them that this site is able to succeed, Tom and I supported all costs initially, but now our advertisers make this site possible and we urge you to support them in any way possible.

With respect to censorship I will restate what has been discussed before. Open discussion is encouraged. We do not want the hot button topics discussed here because they add nothing and there are plenty of places elsewhere to discuss politics, gun control, religion, abortion, etc. We also will not tolerate attacks on members or nasty posts. This group is universally very pleasant to have on the site and while as Gil says sometimes members make posts that are incorrect, we try to make sure the net result of all threads is accuracy. But we still expect members to sort out fact from fiction.

We know members often belong to other groups. That makes sense because when you can socialize with other owners of your type conversion, or other people who like motorcycles, or who have any other interest that is great. If you want to cut and paste stuff from here go for it. It would be nice if you gave credit for the post or information to this site. If you want to have us provide links to your social group we will if we haven’t already. All we ask is your group link to us as well.

Would direct this toward Don Farchild?? In the past discussion I understand concern 200F isn’t a problem and oil temp can run 30F higher Than coolant temp. The experts Don or Clifford are the 2 stroke guys. Detroit of course is by the book. I had trouble getting mine over 190.If memory serves me rite the shut down kicks in around 208F. My understanding is you need a little temp in it for best performance. Do you have Turbo Blankets? Clifford will prob read in. Bob

I completely agree it is somewhat senseless to go to extremes to save fuel when the depreciation on the average bus here makes the cost of fuel each year nothing more than a rounding error.

But I drive slow. Al said it as well as I could. At my normal driving speed I can leave my cruise control on, relax, let others pass me, and rarely do I have to kick the cruise off because I am running up on the back of a truck and need to wait for an opening to change lanes. When traffic is tight and everybody is running faster than I normally drive I kick off the cruise and go with the flow, but on the open road I just kick back and relax. I used to always be in a hurry. Not any more.

March 1, 2013 at 7:51 pm in reply to: My Liberty Buying Experience

Like Truk I bit the bullet and bought my current coach from Liberty.

At the risk of sounding like a paid commercial I mention that because in retrospect it was the right decision given my circumstances. First a little background. My first coach was bought from a private owner, a widow who was not able to assist us in the learning process. Thanks to the late Don and Margaret Hoffman, owners of Hoffman Coach I was able to get a full pre-purchase inspection and some basic training. That training was supplemented by Harvey Mitchell who sold the coach originally and was very gracious in doing that. So my buying experience intially was a good one.

The second coach was purchased from Buddy Gregg in Knoxville and despite some reservations about the support I found they delivered the coach in perfect condition and my training came in the form of some Liberty techs answering the few questions I had. Neither of the previous purchases came with a warranty or my expectations of after the sale support.

Those that have seen my posts over the years recognize I am not one to embrace technology. My cell phone has a rotary dial and does not take pictures, send texts, do GPS stuff, or have an answering machine. When I want to use it I turn it on. So when we opted to get an XLII, with slides, Crestron, and features that go beyond my VHS player I needed training. The fact I had 22 years of ownership experience behind me meant nothing. We were buying a coach that was unlike anything we ever owned except for the fact it said Prevost on the front.

Liberty not only delivered a great coach, all checked out, trouble free, I got 2 days of training and it was like drinking from a fire hose. It was an excellent buying experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat. I echo Tom’s remarks.

Having been an owner for as long as we have I know the people who have been in this industry for years go out of their way to provide customer satisfaction. As buyers and owners we are very well treated and I wish the rest of the world treated us as customers as well as those we deal with buying and getting service on our coaches treat us. I am speaking of almost every converter, dealer, and Prevost. We meet and speak to all of our advertisers and I think they all represent the best of the best.

We Prevost enthusiasts are a small community. If we don’t know each other personally, we know someone who does. There are no secrets and if someone is happy or unhappy we all know about it. We see each other at rallies, talk on forums, and meet up when we get our coaches in for service. We are very fortunate to be as well treated as we are.
