Were you ever setup with PWS?
They are 750 per month for 10 GB and severe overage.
It takes just under 10g a month to run my bus and have remote access.
I run another hot spot for all streaming and surfing and work.

This is how tight it is, only about 1.5″ around the batteries

Found used unit 30 miles from my house complete with solar controller and a spare solar controller. Works like a champ and newer YR 2004 unit. So disregard my post. Nice price $8000 brand new condition. Hard part was lifting 100LBS into Jeep and back out again.
Sent power board to Inverter Service Center of old unit for benchcheck/repair.

WD-40 is not a lubricant although most people think so. Use PB silicone or Amsoil heavy duty MP (metal Protector.
PB blaster is the best rust penetrant . I have multiple cans at any one time.

The default as manufactured is economy. That is not to say a previous owner has not had it reprogrammed.

Bill, were your brackets mounted to the engine or to a point that was not supported by the engine cradle? I read a post somewhere that the alternator shouldn’t be mounted to the engine or anywhere supported by the cradle, but that seems backwards to me.
Bob – I did find some descriptions of installations meant for trucks, but they were mounted on the back of the engine, which is the front for a bus. Accessible for a truck, but roughly in the same spot as a gear-driven 50DN for a bus.

Upgrade to new style arrow points to.
Better with the clear sight style. Easy to inspect for water.
There is your spare I wrote about to carry with gasket.

I removed bolts to generator air bags and lifted the generator from the coach.
I then used a grinder to cut the welded pieces on the slide to allow my slide to be removed from the base of the slide. Several people said there was a bolt at the end that when removed allowed the slide to come completely out. This was not so with my slide as instead of putting in a bolt in the hole at the end of the slide they welded a piece across the back of the slide.
I can now clean all the slide parts and repaint the slide to prevent future corrosion.
The roller bearings in the slide were all gummed from years of heat and grease. I removed them and dropped in a bucket of diesel fuel and years of debris slowly eased out of them. They now turn freely.
I am slowly fitting soundown to the bay.
the results is going to be a shiny bay not like the old greasy foam that lined the bay before.

Jon, I’m not opposed to running the generator. I just went through my Wrico 13kW pretty thoroughly. If I reinstall the Cruisairs, I think the generator will be the only way to go. I’m just considering all of my options at this point. Although I’ve been looking for ways to lower my power demands, I had previously ruled out the ultra-efficient ductless mini-splits since the indoor units didn’t fit my layout and available space. Now that I just gained so much bay space by removing the OTR, I’m taking a fresh look at things. Having simple systems in my 1984 coach may seem like a handicap at times, but it sure makes it easy to imagine starting with a clean slate. It’s not like I’d be shelving any expensive equipment.
I’m not hearing anyone say that relying on the 50DN to provide high current (either charging batteries or running loads) is a good idea, so it’s hard to imagine spending $3-4k for two inverters and another $5k give or take for LiFePO4 right now. I’m mostly going to be pole-to-pole or in generator-friendly spots anyway. If I start boondocking, my needs might change. Those ducted mini-splits I’m considering are just so efficient that they had me thinking it should be possible to run them on the road sans-generator. I guess I was being too optimistic. I’ll still explore installing one of those vs. the front two Cruisairs though. I have parts to rebuild one Cruisair, but I’d frankly like to do away with them. Ironically, I just bought a boat with two more. Can’t escape the damn things!
I do appreciate all of the feedback. I’m trying to figure out the smart move here.
