Tom,

Any chance you could post a few pictures of the items you need or
what is causing your problems?

As for aux air leaks, it’s a never ending battle, but worth the
effort. I have been over every single valve, fitting or junction and
still have a small leak somewhere, I suppose buried in the belly of
the beast and not accessible. Just getting the aux to a
manageable level is rewarding. I use an electronic stethoscope
that picks up small leaks even the soapy water doesn’t show.

Pat is learning her bus the hard way, no documentation, no service records and a bus that sat for a long time further complicating the maintenance issues. She’s a smart lady and will figure it all out, but it will be an expensive learning process.

What we have explained to her is the need to get the service up to date so she has a base to start from. She needs all fluids changed, new tires and a complete going over of the brakes and suspension assuring the safety of the bus. Once that is complete, she can focus on the HVAC, bus air and the house items that need attention.

A PDI at point of sale would have saved Pat a bunch of money, but that’s water over the bridge, so helping her work through the maintenance issues is all we can do.

I have been told that your FMCA parking location is determined by when you signup. Could just be rumor !

To me this is not something that should even be considered. I say this in view of the fact you have a 24 volt starter available.

While you may have pulled what you consider the big electrical loads out of the coach, you still have a 24 volt coach. You would have to make monumental changes to the coach to make it 12 volts, including most relays, changing CB amperages and maybe even wire sizes. Yes the chassis has 12 volt wiring for some devices (all the yellow wires are 12 volt) but you have a 24 volt alternator (or should have) plus 24 volt coils on various solenoid valves etc.

There is a reason why Prevost engineers long ago decided to go to 24 volt coaches.

George, you may recall I gave away a significant number of brackets (angles) for folks to attach to their electrical boxes to better secure them to the bulkhead to which the box is attached.

You are right in that the same type rivets are used to fasten the door. I have replaced mine once already and I find that an occasional drop of oil on the hinge and the rivets is enough to at least slow down the corrosion that causes their failure. For those who have not yet had the pleasure of finding your rear electric box or door laying on the engine

or more precisely the air intake pipe you need to check both the door and the box itself for security.

If the box attachement rivets fail the box drops onto the pipe. If the 12 and 24 volt posts are not insulated, they hit the pipe resulting in a dead short to ground and at best the bus quits running. The door, should it fall has the potential to get tangled up in the belts.

The photo above shows where the box separates from the bulkhead. The rivets fail. You can see the remains of the rivets in the holes. They are hollow pop-rivets.

L have known a couple of people who have done this a few years ago. One from MD and another from NY to Port St. Lucie, FL. Neither had a problem. They were on I-95 about the whole way. If you do it, I would stay under the speed limit.

I doubt if any of us other than fleet operators is in a position to do a good evaluation of tires, and especially motorhome owners because ours tend to age out before they wear out. But that doesn’t mean we have nuggets of information worth sharing.

Some are aware Roger and I bought Double Coin tires (made in Shanghai) 4 or 5 years ago for about 1/2 of what the Michelin tires were costing at the time. My thinking and maybe Roger’s also is that if they gave 2 1/2 years or 3 years of service and then all blew out were were even. If they actually survived 6 years we were way ahead financially. Well Jim Chaloupka has Rogers old coach with the Chinese tires so I don’t know his experience unless he posts here, but I can say with the exception of one tire that had a road hazard failure, my Double Coin tires all continue to hold air and provide an excellent ride.

I was always a Michelin tire guy until the prices went through the roof. The purchase of the Double Coin tires was an experiment and it turns out it was successful. I will always consider Michelin, but only if the price difference is reasonable. Twice the price is not reasonable. But here is the bottom line……..

I did some research recently because of criticism of tires other than Michelin. As it turns out Michelin owns Double Coin. So even though my tires happen to be made in China, they happen to be made by a Michelin Company.

We spent Thanksgiving at Bluewater a
few years ago and although the place is gorgeous, the wind howled and
we had to have the plastic sides on the Tiki Hut zipped in just about
the whole time we were there. Sure couldn’t beat the view though.

As for lot ownership, we like to keep
moving and staying at different places. If your a full timer, owning
a lot seems to make sense. For us, if we owned a lot, we would feel
as though we would have to go there every time we used the bus.

We have plenty of friends who own lots
and really like it, so it all comes down to personal choice.

I also share your questions: I’m using the units (mini-split as they come from factory) In doing so I observed so much in common with the other system with a few extra features. I have modified them for other uses and am presently working on making a roof top application design mod for the condensor side. My son’s Toter Home roof tops are so poor performing and power hungry it is sad. Just observing size of evaporators and condensor coils I have the big Question. Why not. I guess the main factor of using the evaporator would be pressure increase and welding vs solder as I don’t know how the cruse air were mfg and could take the higher pressure. Lots of guys going to face failing systems soon. I put my condensor in the spare tire compartment. Just thinking out loud here. Were the cruseair ever ser rated?? Bob

Wow! MLC those are some impressive pictures! I really like your interiors. Just for giggles (like I could ever afford a new coach) I Googled your location. Turns out I used to attend an annual meeting for five years running just down the road from you all and did not know it. We would meet at one of the hotels on Sand Pond Road. Next time I am down Orlando way I will make sure and stop in and look around. Maybe I can convince you to take on a retro project. LOL

My Jamestown Advanced power pedestal came in last week. I opened it up and played around with it today. It will be a little while before I actually install it as I have some major new wiring to run through the house. I am very pleased with the power pedestal – top quality parts and workmanship!

Here is a picture of the business end. There are 30 amp and 20 amp receptacles under the instruction sheets.
