i-pad Users……Help us solve a problem
We know some i-pad users are having issues posting. As near as we can tell an i-pad user can tap on the Title box for a post or new thread post and the cursor and keyboard will appear so a title can be added.
But we know some i-pad users cannot tap on the block in which the body of the message will appear and get the cursor and keyboard to appear. You likely have seen posts in which only the title is visible and there is no post in the body of the message.
What we want to know in an effort to sort out what is happening, either with our end, or with the user’s i-pad is who has had a problem posting, and who has not using an ipad. Going further, we want everyone using an i-pad to let us know what version they have, what browser (if there is any) is being used, and if they can or cannot post and what is happening or not happening. We will provide all this information to our web guy.
Obviously if you cannot post this information we want to know the details so send it via email to the admin@prevostcommunity.com email address. If you can post, please give us as much details of how you use your i-pad to post, the version, etc.

I use first generation iPad with latest operating system software (51).
I use both Safari and Diigo browers. No problems with either browser.
I can move from title block to body text with no issues.
Added image without an issue (borrowed from the home page.)
Bold – seems to work fine
The screen does seem slow to react at times. Not sure why.
Let me know if there is anything you would like me to test. Feel free to email if easier.

One thing I did notice. The “Post Reply” button is slow to respond. It doesn’t appear to be activated when I pushed it but it eventually engages and posts the reply. Not sure if the server is slow to respond or ???

I have an I pad 1. It is version 5.1 up to date software, safari browser. Other than responding slow all seems to work ok.

Thanks guys. Keep the responses coming. I was with Roger F. today, he has an i-pad 1, but I did not get what version software. If you both have 51 up to date software with no issues there might be an issue with a previous software version. So Roger, what version software are you running? Email me.

so far I am not seeing any issue working from my iPad.

Ps: this is an edit and it works fine. I haven’t posted much with a computer, but entry is abysmally slow, feeling like the is some JavaScript running with every keystroke. Will look at raw source to see if there is anything obvious.

I don’t experience any of the slowness your talking about with my laptop and I’m running on a Mi-Fi Verizon Broadband, so maybe that is something unique to the I-pad.

OK, the editor you use here is a jquery based editor from http://www.dmxzone.com/. According to their webiste, it requires IOS 5 as a minimum for this to work. That’s likely Roger’s error, in that he might be downrev.
I will say, editing with this editor is really slow, on an iPad 2. It might be even worse on an iPad1, which I will be happy to check (I’ve got both).
I captured the HTML out of the forum here, can removed the dmx editor stuff, and the page is snappy on my ipad. So, it seems that the dmx editor is primarily the source of the problem.
It’s unfortnate, in other forum based software, usually you would have the option to enable advanced-mode editing, which turns on the HTML editor. That would probably be a good option for your IT guys to investigate in simply omitting the inclusion of the dmxEditor.js if the profile doesn’t want advanced editing. That would make it more pleasurable on iPad.

Note it might be worth checking if your version of the dmxEditor is up to date. There is a demo page on the dmxzone.com and I tried it with my iPad2. It wasn’t snappy, but it wasn’t as slow as the editor here on prevostcommunity.com.

I have an Ipad one as well version 5.1 it works but as others have pointed out is slow to respond.

Our web guru Joe has looked at this issue from every direction. He considered all of Ray’s recommendations, verified the forum posting template has no issues that prevent posting, or slow down an i-pad. He compared i-pads, kindles and other comparable products. The bottom line is an i-pad can post to the forum, but it must have the 5 version because older software versions are not supported.
We have learned a lot as a result of starting this site, and one common theme has been stressed. The web site software can do just about everything we ask of it, it is easy to use, and it handles just about 99.99% of the user’s needs, sofltware, programs, etc, but unfortunately it will not support 100% of everything. In this case the software version (which is the newest version) will not support the older i-pad software.
He has learned also an i-pad cannot post pictures because it lacks a function that will enable it to do so.
