What we all need to realize is Prevost service can and will do a good job of service, but it is of a limited nature. Unless there is a specific understanding of responsibility, no service provider is going to do anything more than what is asked and that is the problem.

If the Prevost service schedule is followed in its entirety we as owners have to bring the coach for service every 6250 miles. Then we have to track and advise the service people what specifically has to be done at each service event. Look at the schedule and you will see someone has to track what service is required such as coolant change because the schedule gets all screwed up because some items revert to calendar time, while others remain tied to mileage.

As owner we also have to keep track of all the other routine maintenance. This applies to all the items that are silent such as air bags, or stated but not listed on the maintenance schedule above, such as brake chambers. If we lack the expertise or desire to get into the minutia we need to assign the responsibility to some one or some entity willing to assume that responsibility.

And that just covers the chassis. We have other devices and systems on our coaches associated with the conversion that also need routine service, ranging from simple housekeeping such as sanitizing the water tank or changing AC filters, to maintaining the generator.

With the purchase of a used coach the easiest way to get into a comprehensive maintenance program is to first create a list of all that is needed, and then see that it is done when required.

    Dick,

If you copy one’s work it is called plagiarism, however if
you copy multiple people’s work, it is called research.
So, get out there and do some research.

The Allison 4000s in my Monacos had 4″ sumps and use Allison pt# 29548988. They measure 6″ long.

The Allison B500 in my Prevost has a 2″ sump and use Allison pt# 29548987. They measure 4″ long.

I don’t know anything about either coach specifically but before I bought either one I would verify the skin repair was done, or I would have Prevost in Nashville inspect it for potential skin delamination.

Signal quality is never as good with a dome. The reflector is too small in rainy conditions compared to the HD stationary setup. Even a heavy coating of dew in the morning is enough to cause some signal loss with the dome.

The owners manual gives instructions on how to manually lower the dish if it will not do it automatically.

I’ll 2nd the Wineguard, I dumped my Direct TC years ago when I had the Liberty and replaced with a stationary Wineguard giving me HD with Dish. It was flawless and I was able to turn my service on/off as needed. At the time, Dish was the only HD service using a dome as Lonestance explained.

I’d like to see you do that in 30 minutes. It usually takes me that long to fix all the leaks after screwing with the plumbing.

For some reason most Prevost coaches sold by dealers will not even have listed prices. I believe buyers are always going to have to carry the burden of going into the market prepared with information they have gathered about coaches in general, and the coach they are looking at in particular.

For many first time buyers (which we all were once) we found we could be easily sold a coach based on how it looks, its decor and colors. Once we dig deeper however we learn that is the wrong way to buy a coach. As potential owners we need to give a lot of thought as to how we intend to use a coach, what floor plan and features we like and don’t like, and pretty quickly we learn how to narrow the search. We don’t need a list of features when we see a coach because if we have done our homework we will know how a Liberty is equipped compared to a Millennium or a Marathon or a Country Coach.

As buyers we need to learn the maintenance history, and if buying from a dealer if it will come with all maintenance up to date or all repairs to be made or even if it has issues. It is a big deal buying a coach and unlike a car, there is a lot to consider.

So at what age Coach do you discard looking at it. I have seen a lot of Prevost’s that are from 1989 to 2000. Of course the older the Coach the harder it is to get parts and the Coach has in most cases sat and are being sold because the owners are getting up in age and don’t want to continue traveling or health has changed the direction of their lives. I have read all the posts about pre-inspections and appreciate that from all the posts I have read. But, where do you just say no to a 1985 Coach because is to old to zero out or to spend the money for a pre-inspection? I have now begun to zero in on my wants, needs, and affordability, now I need to find the right Coach. Thanks for all your input. Michael

This was seated coach in the beginning. Don’t remember balance light. on my 89 XL seated coach. Had ground problems in batt compartment. and is hard on 2 batteries (of 4) because of 12 volt loads being on all time. Some load on 12V side even when master is thrown. Just rambling and thinking thru. Bob

You know why they do that don’t you? My guess is they pull to the side of the road onto the shoulder. Now the bus is tipping slightly to the passenger side and if nobody is looking the tank gets dumped onto the grass.

I hope I am not giving you any bad ideas.
