How in motion satellite is changing
Many converters are installing the Wineguard T-4 in place of the larger antenna’s. I’am using this T-4 as in fix and in motion now installed in the front cap area. We can see how size has changed in the last couple of years and is the choice of Marathon on all new buses. Switch is installed on dash locking into signal while parked.

But still no HD with Directv and in motion. So are you going to have 2 dishes on your bus or did you switch to DISH Network?

I wish mine were on the front of the bus. I’ve been in a couple places when I backed in, I lost satellite coverage due to the trees, wherein I would have had reception had my dish been in front.

We have an In-motion Winegard Roadtrip Mission dome, model RT4035T, on the forward roof of our bus. It’s small, about 12″ tall. We have Dish service because we like In-motion HD, so Dish or Bell service are the choices. This antenna will do in-motion DirectTV SD. Let me explain.
For In-motion satellite service, the antenna must fit in a dome housing. DirectTV HD requires a larger parabolic shape antenna because it must receive multiple satellites at the same time. No one makes a dome for DirectTVs parabolic antenna requirement . So, no In-motion DirectTV HD, but SD yes. The above mentioned dome on our bus will do in-motion DirectTV SD. I’m sure there are many others.
Dish HD service only needs to point at/receive one satellite at a time for HD, so the antenna is small and round and fits in a dome housing, so there are many antenna choices for in-motion Dish HD service.
7+ yrs ago we had DirectTV SD service. One day they copped an attitude with us, so we switched to Dish. Their customer service is lacking too, but we like their satellite service. When were not using our bus, we “PAUSE” or service and the cost drops to $6/mth.
TREES: 6 yrs ago we bought a automatic carryout Winegard GM-1518. It’s works with either Dish HD or DirectTV SD(remember it’s a dome, so no DirectTV HD). It came with a 50′ power cable, so we can place it out away from trees when the bus rooftop antenna is blocked. We have a coax receptacle in the 1st curbside basement feeding the audio/video selector above the dash so we can watch satellite on all 3 TVs. The GM-1518 is 12vdc powered. Our current bus doesn’t have a 12vdc cigarette lighter female receptacle in this basement, but it does have 15amp/120vac wall receptacle, so we use a 120vac to 12vdc converter with the lighter receptacle to power the carryout.

I’ll 2nd the Wineguard, I dumped my Direct TC years ago when I had the Liberty and replaced with a stationary Wineguard giving me HD with Dish. It was flawless and I was able to turn my service on/off as needed. At the time, Dish was the only HD service using a dome as Lonestance explained.
