Someguy, I cannot disagree with your observation that not everybody wants to stick $500,000 into a motor home conversion.

But do your homework and be honest with yourself. You can buy a high mileage Prevost dirt cheap. It might be possible to even buy one that the owner maintained very well right up until the sale meaning you will not take a lot of money from your pocket immediately, other than what might initially be needed to continue the maintenance program.

You can do a minimal conversion picking up used components from ebay such as inverters and generators. You can buy Chinese split A/C systems. And you will likely have $50,000 or a little more tied up when you hit the road.

Or to use that as a starting point you can get a damn nice 8V92 equipped 40 foot professional conversion with decades of life remaining. If you can open your wallet for up to $100,000 you can get into some fantastic H3 coaches with a series 60 that have always been a lightly used motor home. Something you can jump into and use immediately, and then use your skills to maintain as the need arises.

If you do that it is unlikely you will ever have to buy or rebuild and engine, transmission, or replace a 20KW generator. You will have high quality professionally designed and built systems, and your skills can be used to change things as you see the need, refreshing it with perhaps new flooring, or upholstery or even replacing the corion top surfaces with fine Italian marble.

There are guys that won’t touch a Prevost and really do want to convert a skoolie, or get a vintage GM old Greyhound seated coach and make one of their own. And there are guys that never want to have to put a tool in their hands so they buy new or nearly new conversions. And they are all making the right decision.

Just look at coaches and see what you can get for your money.

Since you have no signature, I assume your coach is 24v. Be sure to confirm the batteries will not have a balance issue when hooked in series.

We have learned to rely on Stewart & Stevenson Florida Detroit Diesel located at 224 SW 52nd Avenue, Ocala, Fl 34474. Ph 352 237-7977. Steve Winstanley, Service Mgr.

They are very accommodating to working on buses and seem to have an incredible access to parts if needed. They have recently installed 50 amp outlets which we find handy when we arrive the night before our service appointments.

    Hi Dick:

I too have the EMS system. Great to be able to check the Campground power before you turn the breaker on in the coach. I am currently in full sun and did have one leg at 42 Amps and the other at 29 Amps (Front CA and secondary compressor “basement unit” plus fridge and a few other things are on the high Amp line) confirming your input of 50 per leg for a total of 100 amps

    Chuck

P.S. Dana @ AAP told me to run the fan at medium not high and the unit will cool probably another 5-8 deg cooler. It works

Looks like a totally normal auto level Liberty setup to me.

Mine are 12v coils. Your results may vary.

Jerry, are you saying their now very slim magazine doesn’t have photos of white haired senior citizens and that their shift to including pop up campers along with every other type of RV is incorrect?

I was a member since 1990, and watched the decline until FMCA opened it up to everyone, at which point I did not feel membership was worth it.

I admit when FMCA held a convention in San Antonio right after San Antonio took a stance forbidding RVs in driveways I realized FMCA was not going to go to bat for its members, but was a potential source for information only.
