2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee DEATH WOBBLE
When towing and making a turn sometimes the front end of car will jump side to side, I’ve found if I stop then proceed slowly it goes back to normal. I’ve spoken to a few others with this problem but nobody has heard of a solution. Jeep says the is no recall for it. I would like to find out if there are more than just a few of out there.
Also anyone have any problems towing the Doge Ram 1500 pickup? Thinking of making a change?

We’re towing a 2019 Ram 1500. No problems, and easy to connect.

A good off-road Jeep shop and add an anti-sway bar to your Jeep or something in the front end to solve the problem. Can’t remember exactly what we did to my Jeep. But there is a solution.

The Death Wobble is a known problem at your dealer. Haven’t heard much about it for couple of years.
There are postings on this site about the wobble and the cure.
It’s the power steering pump….that is a guess from memory.

Weve heard while towing Smart Cars suffer similar wobble. Remedy is to run a bungee cord thru steering wheel making an “X” configuration attaching bungee ends to seat frame

We tow a 2018 Ram 1500 4×4. Very happy with it so far. Only thing I find a little awkward (for me) is that the driver door has to be completely closed or it will not go into reverse or drive. I had always backed with the door open to lock the towbar with past vehicles. Not a deal breaker, by any means, and I’m sure it’s a “feature” for some out there.

2014-16 Jeep owners who experience tow car wobbles when flat towing ……..Jeep has found a cure..
The problem has been located in Jeeps electronic power steering (EPS) system. Jeep needs to change a wire harness and switch which has been engineered and approved.
The update is available Jan. 29, 2016. All Jeep owners will be contacted with updated instructions.

Had my 2018 MKX Lincoln SUV do the same while taking off fast and turning into traffic behind my XL. Have towed it a while and first time it had done it last fall. My 2018 Super Duty F 250 4×4 had the front end redone at 25,000 miles because of a death wobble running down the road at 75 mph. Thought I blew both tires out the way it felt. Guess a lot of them have the problem.

I had a similar problem this trip with my 08 Wrangler, except it was a dumb ass move on my part, put the key in the off position instead of accessory, 2 new steer tires and all is well.
The reason I’m fessing up, is because Jon knows and sooner or later he’ll throw me under the bus while pee runs down his leg while laughing, although a common daily occurrence at his age.

I had once ratted Tom out for doing the same thing, and I had no intention of doing that to him again.
He knows a dumb ass that found out a bus towing a H2 Hummer with the brake on goes up through the gears as if there is nothing back there. The giveaway was the noise, black skid marks and blue smoke.
So don’t laugh girls and boys. There are those that have, and those that will. (Retractable gear pilots also say that expression)

We’ve been flat towing a 2018 Grand Cherokee Overland for 2 1/2 years. No problem so far.

I did hear they came up with a fix for the Cherokee but not for the GC, but I will ask going in for service tomorrow and told them what was happening. I had the 2014 GC with no problems.

I’ve been towing a Ram 1500 Limited for about a year and am very pleased. Follow the procedure in the manual and easy to set-up. However, (as I learned the first time I towed it), if you get things out of order the electronic parking brake may engage.

Death wobble solution.

What brand of tow bar are you using? We had a similar problem with a Blue OX bar and found out one of the arms had unlocked. Stopped and restarted quickly to reset the bar and all was well.
