Jerry,
How many LED’s?
-
Jon, If you can obtain one of those cardboard Burger
King Crowns, we can have a special anointment ceremony at the end of the
seminar to make Jeff the official King. If someone has a hot glue gun, we can even add some sparkly for the ‘bling’ competition.FFF

On a Vantare, these switches are all in “parallel” , including the bicolor relay that changes the color of the switch from off to on. If the ones in the bedroom are blinking, you probably need to change the bicolor LED in the switches. That is the number 1 cause for such an observation. swap the led’s out with those of another switch function, and I’ll bet the condition goes away or follows the LED and not the switch.

I’m rarely correct about anything, but it’s paid off big this time. Thanks Tom for the free membership. Although membership has been worth the cost it has been a strain on the family fortune.

Yeah Will, just wanting to let you know that you weren’t the only one who saw that original post with the ambiguous title and previous flipped photo…While Tom has all the ADMIN control buttons to be sneeky and change things, some of us ‘old timers’ still have a good memory, right? I may be 71 years old, but I still have two things that work great. One is my memory and the other is..uh,..uh, well, I forget what the second is.

Bob, I will say up front there is no perfect pit. No matter the size there is always going to be a need for more height clearance, or a need to get up higher relative to the coach. The same goes for the width.
But as a guy that has done almost all my own work, including routine maintenance now for going on 16 years with my pit I can speak to certain needs. To me the most critical is to insure the width does not compromise the ability to support the coach at the chassis support points. If you go wider than 2 feet with a pit you end up with little or no room for stands or jacks, or some type of support.
Depending on the use of the pit there is likely to come a time when the entire bus is carried solely on the chassis support points and if that is not possible it eliminates a large number of tasks that can be performed.
I hate banging my head on the underside of the bus. It hurts. But if I increase the depth to a substantial amount greater than my 4 foot depth then I am forced to use a platform or short step ladder when doing even routine maintenance. I would not be able to reach the upper king pin fittings on your coach for example. At 4 feet I can just reach them. I could make the pit wider, but then we get back to the chassis support issue.
I believe your air dryer can be serviced because it is serviced by removing three screws and a snap ring from the bottom, but on later model coaches the replaceable cartridge is up high, difficult to reach, and worse it requires a lot of torque to spin the cartridge off. You cannot get the leverage needed unless your feet are planted on the floor and your hips are tight against the pit walls to keep you from spinning on the floor. I understand however a tall person has to take his height into consideration.
Thanks for bringing up the topic of dimensions because for the folks planning a pit they do need to consider all the issues, including what they want to accomplish.

To add to the discussion… I swapped the festoon bulbs in the cargo lights (port, starboard, & aft) for about $30… I ordered these from amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KYQQM5M
They are bright…but a bit blue in tint… I would prefer amber to better match the tivoli…
If I find amber or soft white, I will swap. However, in the interim, they are much better than the old festoon bulbs.

Never thought about that Jon, but true, I rarely see engine issues on this site. Very good point. Chris, hope the rebuild comes out great and no more issues. I am anxious to hear what the cause and solution is for your troubles and if it could have been caught at inspection.

I use 13′ 6″. I won’t even think about trying anything less. I have not done an actual measurement yet either, but It is close enough I won’t risk it.

I have one of those little dayton axial fans. It is mounted in the back wall of the electric bay and blows into the center compartment that holds the Batteries and a cruse air. When I got the bus it was wired up direct and ran 24-7. I put it on a thermostat set at 80deg….

I don’t think any additive will eliminate the abrasive particles
contained in diesel exhaust. Some percentage of the exhaust containing those particles will always be returned to the engine if the EGR
system is functioning. I think if there were a cost effective addivitive available that would eliminate the EGR problem truck owners would be using it instead of paying to have their ECM reprogramed.

I probably cannot live long enough to wear out our present bus. That being said….my thought process has been that if we ever do go with a newer bus is to go no further than one of the last non EGR series 60’s. Am I just being a scaredy cat or prudent ? Geo.

Checked out Marathon #591 early this morning. I’am happy to report all cooling fans are working.
Dear Pete and Re-pete,
Could you find some projects that can be done inside the bus in air conditioning comfort rather then inside a bay when it’s 93 deg. outside ?

Andre,
Thanks for the info. I have gotten a bunch of great advice and help from the PC community today. If we proceed with the deal, I will definitely want an inspection by a detroit shop as a condition before the sale.
