We took the eastern shore route (around the “thumb”) 3 years ago. Once you get past Detroit, it’s beautiful country. We stopped in St. Ignace & spent several days looking around & going out to Mackinac Island. The fudge they make there is fantastic!! 😉 make sure you have time for a trip up to Whitefish Point. The Great Lakes Shipwreck Museum is a must if you’re anywhere near the UP. If you’re in Sault Ste. Marie over the June 25th weekend in 2016, and want something a little different, check out the “Bridge Walk”. One side of the bridge is closed to vehicle traffic & we walked from the US side across the bridge to the Canadian side. Then we were bussed back to the start on the US side. Make sure you take your passport! We had ours and Canadian Customs were no problem when we did it, but the US Customs were a pita…disrespectful & arrogant. But they did not spoil the views from the bridge of the locks, lakes & river and the folks we met along the way. We’d do it again.

We took Rt. 2 across the UP into WI. Simply beautiful. Depending on your timing and interests…the EAA has their annual “AirVenture” in Oshkosh, WI the end of July. If you’re at all interested in anything relating to aviation, I’d highly recommend checking it out. Be aware though, that this is an extremely popular event, so if you Include it in your plans, do it early, make CG reservations (if you can) and be prepared for huge crowds. Event lasts a week, but lots of activity in June & July building up to the actual Convention week. The EAA has a really World Class Museum that’s well worth the time to check out even if you decide not to attend AirVenture.

Lots to enjoy…we’re thinking about doing the west coast of MI in the next couple of years…

    Travel safe…

There are a number of current and former pilots and plane owners and I would bet an aviation special interest group would have no problem finding members.

Just make sure that as a requirement for membership all pilots become members of Pilots N Paws and do some animal rescue flights.

To add to the above a Classic had 3 batteries to the Elegant Lady’s 4 which has a big impact on dry camping. But if you ask my wife the difference it is the Elegant Lady has lights in every cabinet. If you never had them, you won’t miss them, but now that she has had them on the last 2 coaches the lack of them would be a deal breaker.

To me the charm of this is not to reduce the cost of my electric power but to deal with the loss of it. Sure I can put in a generator, but that really makes sense if the power outage goes on for a long period of time. Most of our power outages are fairly short. Maybe an hour or two. It would be nice to have a backup that could keep my non-electric heat, refrigeration, a few lights and maybe a TV or 2 running. Sort of like our bus over night. If Elon Musk gets the price down we might also see these batteries in our busses.

Good advice from Hector. As for leaks, the condenser can be a problem due to it’s poor design. It’s mounted under the bus in front of the drive axle and subject to damage from road debris.

Jerry, the ’04 Vantare may well be an ’03 shell. I’d love to find an ’04 2s shell with bus air. Geo.

As long as Ken started this thread I will add to it because I am doing a full blown test on RV-1 because I have a base of perfromance data.

Ken has been “massaging” my coach so the benchmark for my reporting of the results of RV-1 will be the miles I have driven since my coach was last modified and my reporting will be based on miles driven since the fuel polishing and use of RV-1 starting with the refueling just north of Bella Terra at the Love’s at highway 59 and I-10.

Since my coach engine was last modified I want 6841 miles, refueled 9 times, added 1095.564 gallons for a fuel mileage average of 6.24MPG. That is the benchmark I will use for comparison purposes. What I cannot do is provide any subjective information about improved performance of my generator or Webasto. They both seem to run fine with no smoking or rough perfromance.

I have an odd situation that I cannot explain, but I will post it here just as a piece of information. The last 2019 miles have produced a much better fuel economy and I have no explaination. I refueled three times and the mileage based on 307.143 gallons added works out to 6.57 MPG. The jump in mileage leaps out at me because my coach up until the final three times I have refueled I was reasonably consistent with respect to mileage at around the 6.2 value. For purposes of evaluating RV-1 however I will use the 6.24 MPG value.

For purposes of consistency I use cruise control to the maximum extent. Whenever I can, regardless of the speed limit on the highway, from 55 to 70 plus I drive at 1500 RPM which gives me a speed of 62 MPH based on both the GPS and the speedometer. My MPG as shown on the message center is skewed to the high side and will be corrected to be more accurate, but for this test of RV-1 it will remain as it has been since my last engine modifications. Just as a bit of information it had been reporting 6.7 MPG prior to the reset after fuel polishing, after fuel polishing it has shown 6.8 but I am not attaching any significance to the added .1 MPG right now.

I definitely learned the low fuel lesson on the generator. Almost always happens to a new owner.

I actually once ran out of fuel entirely. An incline going into the fuel station pushed all the fuel to the back of the tank and BAM, bus died in the line of truckers waiting to get some fuel.

After a few verbal beat downs I fueled it up 5 gallons at a time until it would start. Great lesson learned for sure.

    Never a dull moment.

We also want to say ‘Thank You’ to all of those who helped put together a wonderful No Rally Rally.

This was our first Prevost related event. It was so nice meeting a lot of the people that I have chatted with on the threads and meeting new people. Looking forward to the next event!

    Safe travels to all!

A lack of some form of accumulator tank makes the pump an on demand pump. The minute you crack a faucet the pump turns on, and the minute you close the faucet the pump turns off.

You need an accumulator tank for two very important reasons. The first is the tank tends to level the water flow so you deliver water where needed instantly and there is no lag while the pump kicks on. The accumulator holds a gallon or two under air pressure so you can draw a little water before the pump kicks on. The pump runs as long as necessary to recharge the accumulator tank. As Joel points out if you treat the pump as an on-demand it is hard on the pump because you are not cycling based on a pneumatic bladder which absorbs pressure gradually, but based on trying to compress water which is not going to happen. The pump will kick on and almost immediately after the faucet or valve closes the hydraulic pressure in the system ramps up instantly and hits the pump and pressure switch with an uncushioned bang.

But the most important reason is it absorbs the expansion of water due to heating in the HW tank. Water grows when it gets hot. If there is no air cushion in the system like you get with an accumulator tank the volume of water expands to exceed the system volume and the HW tank safety relief valve pops open. Do that enough and the valve which was never intended to cycle on and off becomes a leaker.

Even the smallest of expansion or accumulator tanks will benefit the system. The bigger the expansion tank the longer the pump will run but the longer water will flow before the pump kicks on.
