While I am certainly in agreement with anyone’s choice regarding personal protection I hope everyone realizes the absolute best defense we all have is the ignition key.
I never ever want to be put in a situation where I feel compelled to put a weapon in my hand because that means I have no further options and my only recourse is to use it. On a few occasions we found ourselves in a place where we realized we might not be safe and getting in the driver’s seat and going elsewhere ended the problem,
With our entry door locked nobody is going to be an instant threat unless they have a very fast way to enter through windows that are at least 6 feet off the ground.

Proof of what we have been saying for years and consistent with every RV crash we have driven past. We have never seen one that has stayed together.

Actually, You did not provide a reason–you qouted out of a manual someone wrote. I suppose you never questioned what was in the book or what someone told you. I turn on the Jake in traffic, and when I think I might need it, but I still have not heard a good reason not to turn it off on the interstate with no traffic. I never forget the status of the Jake; I drive the coach 100% when I drive. But you don’t like opinions other than your own, do you, Mark!
Wow, I don’t know where to start. You wanted to know where the info I stated was correct came from. I gave the reason straight from the Operators Manual for the product. Now you seem to think you know better than they do about how it should be used. You think I should question the people who built it? Wow what arrogance you have.
I get a good laugh after reading your crap….”I never forget” famous last words.
Jon or Tom, maybe time to lock this thread?

Anyone that wants to can come show me where my switches are. I can’t find them.
My coach is so good my bitching is because having the switches that are absent would make it almost perfect, and the inconvenience is minimal as I mentioned. It is still the best coach we have ever owned. My gripe is this application of technology has replaced the pull chain for the light over my head that would be better than walking to the living room to turn on the light.
And yes Tom’s coach with switches where he needs them is a perfect blend of technology and old fashoined simplicity.

Sad to say I do not have a single light switch for a lot of my lights. Without going into the coach to check, the following things require the use of a Crestron to operate as individual functions.
Microwave light
Sink light
Kitchen lights
Dinette lights
Galley pocket door (galley side)
Kitchen counter cabinet extension
TVs (no remotes)
All 4 Cruise airs
In other words apart from the inconvenience of not having a switch near where I would use those devices or an alternate to the Crestron. If my Crestron pukes I cannot operate any of those items. I think Mark has a coach that has been improved because of feedback from customers like me who find the lack of switches unacceptable.
I just want any technology applied to my coach to make sense. If someone wants to have the ability to unlock their bay doors from anywhere in the world with their cell phone I’m OK with that, but when applying upgrades like that to a system consideration needs to be given to the daily use of the coach as well. BTW, as I bitch about these things keep in mind I consider my coach so well done, so well thought out I cannot imagine one I would rather have. What I consider inconveniences are so insignificant relative to the overall satisfaction they have virtually zero impact on us. My point is they are examples of technology for the sake of technology.

WOW, also sorry to hear about the accident and glad that you both are OK (including the pets).
The bus doesn’t look too bad. I can only imagine what the Prius looked like and how a regular motorhome would have held up in a 40 mph crash.

Marius,
You said that the newer Atwood 10.5 gal WH don’t have a 12v connection. That’s not correct. I had two new 10.5 gal WH installed last spring.
They still had the 110v connections to operate off shore power or the generator.
And they still had the 12v to operate off the Webasto heating system (like Jeff said), which is especially handy if you’re taking long showers, doing the wash, and doing dishes all at the same time!

Jon, in response to your first sentence responding to my post, you would lose that bet. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard the tin ear excuse and not once has anyone been in a hurry to leave the room and usually we have to just say sorry last song. By the way, this inlcudes a friend with hearing aids in both ears. Anyway, that is another bet you would not want to make and we can discuss why another time. Enjoy your music.

That is the best post in this thread.

We had the door window removed and replaced with tinted safety glass a few years back and love it.

Tom, Tom, Tom, always putting something else into the mix. Why would a city post “No Engine Brakes”? Does it mess up the road or something like that, or noise? I don’t ever remember seeing that sign! -
Adding an attempt to add 003 MPG to the coach performance by not allowing a retarder or jake to do the thing they do best may be OK, but when there is a discussion about how to best use those features without mentioning fuel economy as a consideration can be misleading to relatively new owners who are trying to figure out how to best use those features.
Unless I am wrong programming a jake to 2nd gear may have a neck snapping component to its operation as it drops into the next lowest gear on its way down to the second gear that has been programmed. It is not such a bad downshift when going from 6 to 5, but even when programmed to drop to 4th that can be a harsh downshift from 6th if the coach is just below the top speed for 4th because it will drop into the lower gear and instantly push the engine revs up close to the 2100 RPM limit. That’s tough on pasengers and all the mechanicals in the drivetrain. Remember in the upper gears the torque converter is locked so there is no cushion to downshifts.
