Send me the picture Diane, I’ll put it in your post unless there is a file issue.

    If it is a standard combination;

top dead center is the “open” mark.

sequence of turns is left right left right,

    number of turns is ;4-3-2-1-

4 left 1st # and stop exactly on the number.

3right 2nd number(counting each time the number passes the mark is a turn)

    2 left to 3rd number.

then turn right slowly till the dial stops turning( you will feel a slight click, then the dial will stop firmly.

    Guys,

Sorry to show my ignorance on this one but I am not sure I am totally tracking and I thing this is important that I keep asking quesitons until I understand… I don’t want to end up in the run away ramp or worse….

So first question for those of you who indicate that you are manually shifting… do you have an indication on your bus what gear you are actually in before you manually shift… Unless I am missing something while driving my allison display always shows 6… it might go to 4 when the jake is engaged I will have to check that

Full disclosure here… I haven’t ever manually shifted this bus or any previous coach I have had so I just wanted to make sure I wouldn’t screw it up so I haven’t done it just yet… is it as simple as hitting the up and down arrows on the keypad or is there more to read up on this… I haven’t been able to find the allison manuel yet but I am sure it’s somewhere in this stack of books…

    Thanks for your patience guys!

The fuel tank(s) is in the center of the coach. Whichever bays are not pass through or which do not have converter installed devices that go through the center are likely to have the fuel tank behind them.

If I had a fuel smell I would first try to get beneath the coach and look carefully under and around the tank(s). Unlike gasoline if you have even a small diesel leak it is not going to evaporate, but get bigger and dirtier as it accumulates dust and dirt. So if it is from a tank or a connection it should show up with a look from below. If your coach has auxiliary fuel you have a second tank joined to the maion tank with a hose connection. That could be leaking. If you have OTR there is a possibility you can pull a panel in that bay and look at the fill tube connections to the tank.

Mark is correct on his comments and you cannot rule anything out.

The leak if any can be very small, but diesel has such a strong odor it is likely you will smell it. Before you go completely crazy looking it will not hurt to soap up and areas that are dirty with oil or possible fuel drippage such as in the areas around the fuel filler and flush them clean. I use Simple Green, but any good material like that works.

Your fuel tank is vented, look there, and follow the fuel lines to and from the fuel tank also. If you cannot borrow a pit such as at a truck stop to get beneath the coach at least make certain you support the coach under the body support points before even thinking about sliding under.

    Peter,

Thanks I will definately keep that in mind….we just finished our first week in the bus (family of 5) and the chore of keeping the bus in really cold weather is what I am concerned about as I will be working and most likely staying in a hotel in Denver for at least a couple of weeks. Based on this week we are having to dump black every 2 days, 3 max… the air toilets are really nice but they use a ton more water than what we are used too… so we are just thinking this thru… The Marathon has the no fuss sewer hose and just not sure about all that in super cold… might be safer to just connect a reagular hose to it… just not sure what the wife is going to be up for…..

Didn’t even think about chains… I have seen the automatic chains on firetrucks in the midwest my guess is they would be pretty spendie…. my initial plan was going to be if chains were required we won’t be driving… then there is the whole concern of a couple of feet of snow on slides and all that fun….

Might just be easier to retire and stay here in Hilton Head….where the weather has been amazing…. several Prevosts here….

Tom, That looks wonderful. Is this done under Prevosts dime? Just curious since it’s a design flaw!

I measured the support arms for the axle, in theory the upper on should be 23 7/8 cc and the lower one 22 7/8 cc. Giving a positive caster or center of wheel vertical line slightlhy tilting back. Mine are all the same length 23.5″ upper and lower. I could be off a little but not a inch and they are all the same lenght.

    I wonder what’s up?

    Right on, DKO.

The fluid level is checked at the cap with the T handle. If you are doing maintenance, the cap is removeable and inside is a filter. I have changed my power steering filter about once every 10 years. Not a big deal.

Transmission fluid is what is used however I remember from somewhere that at one time a multi-viscosity motor oil was also acceptable and it was beneficial in minimizing the squeal associated with having the steering wheel turned all the way. That needs to be verified. I think Marathon was doing that?

Anybody capable of verifying that? Until verified I would stick with Dextron.

I had a generator battery overcharge condition. I was ready to have the alternator overhauled, new voltage regulater, all that stuff my mind said that would fix it. Well the problem was the ground cable from the battery was loose way back in the deep dark confines of the generator compartment.

March 25, 2013 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Pneumatic bathroom sliding door TU

Thanks everone for your pointers. We were able to complete the trip by just turning off the little air compressor below the driver seat. Doing so we had no air slide (foot well) and no air horns which was as expected.

Today I fired up the compressor and to may surprise the bathroom door is now fully operational again. No loud leak in the wall. I speculate that the electric/pneumatic valve that operates the door was stuck open that night. But now it works again. Pneumatics are fun.

All is not well though. The horns still do not work and the air slide only retracts very reluctantly. I hear some faint hissing coming from the slide pressure regulator (set at 60 psi). I plan on taking it apart and cleaning it.

The other concern is the air compressor. Its supply leads get very hot when running.Too hot to touch. It actually melted the connector covers. The compressor is rated at 18 amps at 12V. It must be pulling more than 18 amps. I’ll look into an overhaul kit or replacement. It is a Thomas Industries 315 series compressor. Has anyone found a good source for them?

In the picture you can see the melted connector covers (black) on the compressor side.

Congratulations on your new Liberty. I echo the sentiments about the folks at Liberty. Had they or Brandon at Legacy had something available that fit our needs, we would gladly have purchased from them. They had exemplary products, answered all my questions and kept in communication.

It is called “Mela” and is right downtown. Has great reviews on Yelp. Just be careful. “Spicey” means nuclear and not “medium”!!!!!
