So for a newbie would a 2001 be manual, air or air and electric? If manual are there still problems?

    Thanks Don.

I called Prevost Parts and they said they do not have any filters or gaskets for that style anymore and recommend moving to a new design (part number 641338) which has replacement filters available (641340).

Unless I can figure out another source for that type filter and gasket I might just have to do the change out of the entire canister.

Boy, that’s beautiful country. I flew over that area on my way to North Carolina to deliver my last airplane to her new owner, who in turn handed me the keys to my Prevost. I had to set down in Toccoa for a maintenance issue, and got to spend the night and meet some great people. Georgia ticked up a few notches on my list of favorite states after that trip.

Over 30 years of ownership have indicated to me when a converter is at the level of Prevost conversion it is a high probability the construction of the conversion is going to be of high quality.

Do not interpret that to mean that all conversions are perfect. When we owners get to speaking seriously to one another about our respective conversions it is clear each conversion has some real quality features as well as a couple of really bone headed ideas. The dumb stuff is rarely a deal breaker, and is often either easily tolerated, or easily fixed.

I cannot think of a single feature or reputation by any converter that would chase me away. What does make me focus on a coach is how it is equipped, and if it has certain features we want in a coach. For example I will not own a coach that does not have OTR, and I will not have one that does not have a private toilet. I have other wants and needs but those two are the deal breakers, never the converter.

After several attempts to fix the original refrig in our 2000 Marathon H3-45 none slid….. I yelled uncle.

Located a new one through Sears in Dallas. Marathon called me that Sears delivered it to Marathon at Grand Prairie TX. Marathon service opened up the shipping container and plugged it in on there shop floor.

Getting there 2 days later, replacement started at 7:30 and they finished at around 3:00 pm.

On that bus the in and out was through the “Taco Window” in salon.passenger side. Marathons fork lift was used to receive the refrig the doors and striped down lowering weight.

This is another gift to the poor Iowa mega farmer who owns the bus today.

It was replaced with the Sears Kenmore #51789.

Only modification / change done was removing the bottom rollers.

    A retarder actually requires a driver to…………drive.

All downhill runs in heavy vehicles require planning and driver participation. The gear downhill is likely to be what was required to go uphill. A target speed appropriate to the gear needs to be selected and at the top of the hill the coach needs to be below the target speed and in the correct gear.

When or if the coach pushes against the jake or retarder and builds speed, at the target speed, apply firm braking to bring speed down to a lower one and repeat.

A retarder builds heat and if the coach is pushing hard against the retarder it needs to go to a lower setting or brakes and a lower gear (or both) may have to be applied.

You are not going to be able to safely descend a hill at a speed or gear above the one used to climb it. As transmission temps climb the retarder setting needs ot be reduced and keep in mind, brake application will automatically apply the retarder proportional to the amount of braking force applied so you may have to turn off the retarder master switch to avoid overheating.

If you cross the top of the hill at highway speed in high gear you are already behind the curve and are stuck with 50,000 plus pounds of energy that is going to accelerate pretty fast. Get rid of that energy before you crest the hill. The hell with vehicles behind you. If they don’t like your speed, let them pass.

The real professionals on here can add to what I said. Don’t blame a retarder for poor planning.
