  • Accessory Air Filter and Belt Tensioner Regulator

Posted by Michael on July 20, 2020 at 9:53 pm

I did not see any prior discussion about this so thought I would start and see what people do. I read in the Maintenance manual for my XL that I should be changing the filter element and gasket of the accessory air filter every two years. I also see they recommend disassembling and cleaning the belt tensioner pressure regulating valve. I have not done either of these maintenance suggestions on my XL and am wondering if others are following this? Also, if so, I noticed no filters or gaskets are available from Prevost so wondering where you get those replaceable parts. I have not experienced any issues with my accessory air system, but want to avoid that in the future.

    Thanks for any insights!

PS – Included pictures from the manual.

Every couple of yrs I remove, clean, change element, then reinstall that water trap. It never has been very contaminated. Here is my mx log entry from last Dec.

Disassembled Bendix Type E aux air water trap. Reassembled w/new FF244 filter element. Prevost pt# is 640073

    Thanks Don.

I called Prevost Parts and they said they do not have any filters or gaskets for that style anymore and recommend moving to a new design (part number 641338) which has replacement filters available (641340).

Unless I can figure out another source for that type filter and gasket I might just have to do the change out of the entire canister.

Where is the filter located. Have a 1998 Royale.

This is a Prevost item I assume due to the part numbers being Prevost.

On our bus it is located just inside the steer compartment door at the lower right.

I use Fleetgaurd # FF244 and I make my own gasket out of sheet gasket material from NAPA.

Here’s a PC thread I did in Jan of 2017: LINK

    Thanks Don!

Somehow I missed that thread when looking before posting. I am going to give that a try.

Yes, inside the steering compartment on the right side is where mine is as well.

    Don,

Any chance you can post a link to the filter? I see an oil filter with that number but not a string filter.

Sorry it took me so long to reply. We took a little vacation from everything.

I did a little searching and it appears Fleetgaurd may have discontinued their # FF244. My source in the past was simplyfilter.com for $13. You can send them an inquiry at inquiry@simplyfilter.com.
I did see a Fleetguard FF244 replacement on amazon by “aftermarket filter experts”. No picture and it comes in a 3 pack at: amazon FF244 LINK
Below are pics of my old filter. It can be washed, dried, and reused.
