  • Need Shore Power Receptacle

Posted by Ronald on May 8, 2020 at 11:05 am

In my zeal to move the coach an additional foot to get to something on the sidewall of the garage I failed to disconnect the shore cable. I cracked now I have a need to replace the current one.

Recommendations on where to find one?

You can try here, but there are a lot of other places to buy marine shore power receptacles.

You can also try West Marine.

Also if your city has a sizable commercial electrical supply house, try them.

It’s just a 50amp twist lock plug receptacle.

There is a new Smart Plug out that is supposed to have better connections with larger contact points.

I added the yellow threaded weatherproof boot to my 50 amp cord.

Does the replacement require a rear safety enclosure with strain relief?

For the Wholesale Marie web site the specification says “Does not include rear safety enclosure with strain relief”.

    Questions on the SmartPlug:

    1. Does this require a re-wire like mentioned in one of the responses?

    2. Does it fit into the existing location without modification of the body of the coach?

    3. Does it require a totally new shore line, or can my existing shore power line be used with a new connector attached?

Coach shore power receptacle replaced by old style or new would have to be connected of course , so that would be a wash. Smart Plug site says it is same mounting holes. Use your old cord and change out the twist lok female plug to the female smart plug and your done. Why would a whole coach have to be re-wired ?

I haven’t changed mine out yet. But after having a twist lok get over heated last year I am considering it. If you take a look at the 50A version of the smart plug it has 4 good spade connectors more like the male plug that you plug into a power pedestal. Where the old style twist lok has 3 spades that are smaller and uses a connector on the collar for the fourth. It looks like it would be a better connection to me. Along with the strain releif locks that hold it in place and the water resistant design. And it comes in stainless too. Sure looks like an upgrade to me and looks much easier to connect.
