Just a few clues for the first time you drain and fill your own transmission. The fluid will come out of the filter housing in a most impressive manner so barely loosen the bolts and with something jar the filter plate loose. Let the fluid seep out of the resulting little space. When it stops dribbling then loosen all the bolts and remove the filter.

Do not overtighten the bolts. That aluminum case and the threads can get damaged real easy. Same with the drain plug.

The most accurate way to verify the correct fluid level is the use of the two arrow buttons on the transmission shift pad. If you are into pain try reading the dipstick. When you get frustrated you can always use the shiftpad.

Use Transynd or its synthetic equivalent. Don’t try to save money by using Dextron.

    Tom,

They “could be” if the parts that were taken off, mainly the crank handles, were around. Prevost got “sideways” with the old vendor and NO repair or replacement parts to the original windows are available now.

I agree that it sounds like you’re on the right track.

A word of caution…..be careful not to over tighten those fittings as it is not too hard to deform them. Good and snug should be good enough.

If you end up in a jam and need to make a temporary fix to a fitting that just refuses to cooperate, I’ve used a small stainless hose clamp around the outside of the fitting to keep things dry until I could replace it with new.

    Good luck…..

What he says is right. Mine went out in the parking lot at the Ft Myers airport and by the time the DD tech came out, diagnosed that I needed a new pump, ordered it overnight from Prevost in Jacksonville and installed it, I had spent 3 days in a parking lot, got charged over a grand and all for a $1 o-ring.

Fortunately, I kept the old pump, did an autopsy and replaced the o-ring and now have a spare which I will probably never need.

When it went it sure did make a mess of the engine compartment!

It was my fault on R79 Gil the first time, the 85 tab still had just a little left after I broke it off and it made contact. This time I didn’t push the relay in all the way so 85 would not make any contact.

    Tom,

Glad to hear all is well. It’s weird that you didn’t feel it lock up the first time you have the relay in #79.

FWIW, I chased a fan clutch problem a couple times. It worked well some times not so well others. At the suggestion of others I replaced R79. I’m now confident it was always good. The culprit was probably R78. At 3 bucks a piece and when in doubt, replace them all, including R99. I should have thought the issue out more as I never had the problem with dash air on and it engages the high speed relay.

Will the card allow for automatic pump start? It’s nice to not have to go inside before AND after fueling…

Thanks Jon. Still have a day job. Will check clutch engagement next this week. If it does not engage, then the compressor is not running. In this case, do I introduce 134a at the reciever located in the condenser bay or at the compressor?

I had not fired the Detroit since April 1, 2013, about 4.5 months. Just finished installing all new slack adjusters and test drove it for that. The tachometer also quit same time as ac, you suppose there’s any correlation? Just kidding.

Alvie, yes brother Jay is still bussing around. Branson – no, as I am still working, we have immediate family in Springfield , Mo. and go there as often as we want. But I would like to meet the people here that help so much. I will retire 1h14 and will be free at last.

    Good job.

No matter how much I think I know my coaches I continue to learn how our converters dealt with the design. As silly as it sounds looking at a specific area of the coach for a while often reveals little details that we can store in our brains for future reference. I am in awe of how much thought has gone into converting an empty shell.

Over the weekend, my wife tried laying rolled up towels over the defrost vents. The force of air was so great, the towels were suspended in air.
