Shades
Hi PC,
I have motorized black out shades on all of the front windows.
They all have Somfy 404S2 U41 motors. My right shade has stopped
working entirely. It started to fail little by little by that I mean it would
work sometimes and then stop for a while and then now not at all. I cleaned all
the contacts and I have good fuses inside the cabinet on top of the driver and
also in the fuse panel in the bay. The switch is good checked that and there’s voltage
at the motor hook up point but she won’t turn. These motors are expensive from
$230 -330 for a new one. Is there something I’m not checking? And or is there a
place that sells an alternative motor that would do the job for a
reasonable price?Fred

Hey Hish there is a girl here at tgo who works over at the tgo office and advertizes that she restrings shades. If you can wait till you get back she may be able to help you out. Hope the trip is going well. Hurry back before the heat is all gone LOL. Her number is 321-704-3112 ask for Wendy.

Mine are Hunter Douglas electric and I have repaired a broken string. I now have another broken string, yippee. It’s a time consuming job and there is no real way to explain how. If I could find someone that knows how to do the repair, I would gladly pay to have it done.

I’ve done this a couple times and it was pretty easy. It was probably harder getting the blinds back up and installled than restringing them.

Just got home on Wed. I did the job my self my, my shade is electric Douglas Hunter, it was some what hard at first but after playing with the setting to open and close the shades, got it adjusted to right length. The next time that I do this I will add about foot extra cord to make the adjustment easy.
Got the experience restringing the shades on my Bluebird Wanderlodge before, did them while on vacation in CA fun!!!!.
Be sure to have a 12 V power supply to run the shade up and down to check the length if you have the electric shades, and make sure the cord wraps around the motor the same the direction the other cord runs.

My front electric honeycomb shade turned out to be made by “The Right Track”. They won’t even talk to me since I’m not one of their “qualified distributors”. I have removed the shade but can’t even send it to them. Only one of their distributors can send it in.
It does not look too difficult to figure it out but I was hoping to get it repaired quickly by someone that knew what they were doing. I’m back on the road next week. I do have a lead on someone locally that does repairs on a variety of brands so maybe I’ll have some luck.
If I end up working on it myself, I might give you a call, assuming I’ll get frustrated. Good assumption.

You’re fortunate to have 12v, mine are 24 and I have to rig up a jumper wire from the engine compartment boost lug to my work table to work on the blinds.

I have both 12 and 24 volt power supply from my airport days. Are your shades 24 volt? I wander why Marathon did our with 12 volt.
