I like the double decker bus, Boxcar! Does it have slides? Tom’s next bus has to have slides.

We started a high speed run across half the country this evening. Going from Mandeville, LA, to Yellowstone NP after picking up two 12 year old Grandsons. Gotta be in Gillette Sunday night. Left Mandeville after work, stopped in BR to replace a headlight bulb that decided to burn out. Made it to a Cracker Barrel in Longview, TX. Turned in the wrong driveway and ended up dropping the toad and backing out, such fun. Should make southern Colorado by tomorrow night if I don’t make many more wrong turns. Running well for an SOB coach…

Got new hearing aids this week. Did you know that paper makes noise when you move it? I also found out that our coach has a nice chime like alarm when you raise the tag axle. Never heard it before. Waiting in a slow checkout line with a few supplies before we left surrounded by several families with small screaming kids I just turned off the hearing aids and life was good. My wife is jealous, but at least she doesn’t have to repeat herself anymore…

Maybe either Bill Dogherty at Liberty or John Kincaid from Prevost can get you the info? Bill told me that it was a Prevost fix, so I don’t think it should be a secret.

The layers of the windshield “sandwich” have moisture or air between them.

The probable cause was the rubber molding allowed water to enter the groove the glass sits in, or it could be the layers just separated.

As long as your windshield is coming out you have zero invested in the labor to replace the glass, and at times if you can catch it Prevost sells those sections pretty cheap. I paid $130 for 3 but that was several years ago. Keep it for a spare. I seem to average about 40,000 miles between glass replacements due to rocks or stones.

I have 4 in my 2 slide coach and have been in 104 degree in Kentucky in July and mine would maintain 72 degrees in the sun without any shade.

    Tony,

I am not familiar with how Marathon set up your coach, but I suspect if the valves are open you only need two more things to get heat. You need to be assured the hot coolant is circulating through the house, and if the heat is not directly from engine coolant, but is from an Aquahot you need to verify the coolant is circulating through its heat exchanger. Usually to get the circulation you need a pump in the system to move coolant from the engine to the heat exchanger or Aquahot. Do you have one and is it working?

The second thing you need will be the fans to move air across the heat exchangers. The fans will be audible when you call for heat. Do you hear them? If they are blowing air then the problem is with coolant circulation. If they are not blowing the issue is getting them to work.

On that vintage coach, the coolant loop from the engine to the driver area is controlled by the temperature adjustment on the dash. You either have a valve somewhere in the rear that is shut off or the termperature rheostat is not working preventing coolant flow through the heater core.

I had a 97 and don’t remember the exact location of the valves, but you may have one hidden in the small bay, driver side just ahead of the radiator.

“Make sure there are clearances so no sheet metal gets bent, no underbelly components get damaged, and your coach is secured properly.”

    I have three questions:

    1. Jon’s suggestions and other comments on how to spot a bad tow truck driver, etc. Several of you stated “you didn’t feel comfortable” about the tow truck driver. What specifically are you looking for that you sent those drivers packing and waited for someone more competent. Was it the actual driver or was it inadequate equipment?

    2. A statement was made “I no longer shut-down at fuel stops.” So people keep their Prevosts running while fueling up? What’s the mechanical reason for doing this?

    3. Finally, in order to decide if carrying towing coverage is worth it, what is the average premium you’re paying for CN vs. the potential cost of being towed?

The short story is: a tech showed up, fixed the 2 inop Cruisairs, and they’re all blowing cold now.

The long story is: the aft system was low on R22 so some was added. The sight glass is clear now(no bubbles). The wx here was 82 degrees, 90+ % humidity, light wind, full shade. In the end the pressure/temp #s on the techs gauges were:low side=68 psi, hi side=248 psi, suction temp=40 F, discharge=117 F.

The fwd system had a bad run capacitor. Grainger has them for $25. But the tech replaced it with one he had on his truck. Nothing else was needed on this unit.

    The port system needed nothing.

I fired up all three Cruisairs. Inside coach temp was 80 F. Within 20 mins inside coach temps(fwd, mid, aft) was down to 72 F. Temp differentials were all 19 degrees or greater. Within and hr they were all cycling on and off at 70 F witch I had set on the SMX II controls.

I’m HAPPY, HAPPY, HAPPY except for the $330 I was charged. Remember I’m a DIYer. It pains me to have to pay someone to work on my toys.

The tech was Brent Flower with A & E Air Conditioning, N. San Antonio area(Bulverde), 830-980-8600 http://www.ae4cool.com. All work was done in my covered carport.

No. Couldn’t make it on such short notice since I just found out about the NRR when I joined this forum the end of March.

I know I am going to offend someone, but at this point one thing that will make us go elsewhere is an RV park with a bunch of little kids running around. I would rather eat bees than spend time at an RV park near an amusement park or anyplace that caters to families with small kids. So to add to my above comments add in that we look for RV parks with senior citizens.

On edit, let me restate the above………We have nothing against kids, it is the parents who don’t insure their kids respect others that irritate us. And apparently it is not politically correct anymore to discipline kids.

Temperatures on the 8V92 will typically run 175 to 185, maybe up to 195 pulling a long steep hill in high ambient temperature conditions.

Series 60 engines are designed to run hotter. The two speed DDEC controlled fan has a low speed cut in of 204 degrees, and a high speed fan cut in of 208. In my coaches it is not unusual to see the temperature range from just below 200 to about 210.

I monitor the readings and know if when climbing a long steep hill in high temp conditions if the gauge peaks at around 210 and then starts to drop back down I know the high speed fan has kicked in and the fan and radiator are doing their job. If I do not see the temperature gauge cycling then I get concerned.
