Windshield problem on XLV
Posted by Dick on June 7, 2015 at 10:03 pmThis is the worst of two spots on the passenger side windshield. I presume that the windshield is three layers; lexan or something similar in the middle with safety glass on either side.
What is happening? Are the layers delaminating? Is this common?
We’re having the refrigerator replaced shortly and I plan to have this pane of the windshield replaced at the same time.

Can’t upload photos tonight. I’m even using Google Chrome. I haven’t paid dues for a while, maybe the Admins took my picture uploading rights away. Do dues have to be current to upload pictures? Anyone know?

I’m guessing it’s turning yellow and brown, probably in the corner, only real cure is windshield replacement, the ones on your coach are fairly easy to do.

Yeah, I know what your talking about, it’s under the outer laminate layer, replacement is the only way to eliminate it.

Tom: I did.
At one time I couldn’t upload pictures using Internet Explorer. Then I tried Google Chrome and could upload pictures. Hadn’t uploaded for a while. Used Google Chrome yesterday and again a few minutes ago to try to upload the picture. I can get the picture to show up in the picture upload preview box, but when I try to click “OK” nothing happens. The thing just sits there. Let it sit for 20 minutes thinking it needed to do something in the background, that didn’t help.

Your picture file extension was the problem, I added it to your original post.

The layers of the windshield “sandwich” have moisture or air between them.
The probable cause was the rubber molding allowed water to enter the groove the glass sits in, or it could be the layers just separated.
As long as your windshield is coming out you have zero invested in the labor to replace the glass, and at times if you can catch it Prevost sells those sections pretty cheap. I paid $130 for 3 but that was several years ago. Keep it for a spare. I seem to average about 40,000 miles between glass replacements due to rocks or stones.

It is coming out of Ohio. I think the price quoted this morning by Elgin was $210 or $230 for the passenger side.

Be glad you don’t have a Monaco Signature. That huge piece of glass is nice to look through but cost about $5k to replace.
