My guess would be condinsation getting in the exhaust system from time to time and when the generator is fired up it blows the sutt out of the exhaust pipe.

It could also be a build up of fuel as the generator starts, sort of like getting too much fuel before combustion then blowing out the excess.

If it is just carbon and sutt I don’t think so.

If it is oily like fuel or smells like it maybe an adjustment to the generator fuel system or a check to the fuel system.

Maybe an injector problem or a priming problem on start up. I assume it is a fuel injected engine like mine.

I would have it checked if this just started, but I suspect it has been doing this for sometime.

Looking at the pictures it doesn’t look like the top of the coach is too messed up, if it were then I would think this has been going on for some time.

Coach is on auto gen, Memorial weekend I had the coach / roof washed, there was no mention of the mess, also looking thru the shower vent it was always clean, until yesterday…I also had it washed on Sat at truck wash, they had pressured deionized water from top possible some water got in?

Could it be they got water down pipe during wash?

That is what I am thinking, not sure? Maybe someone had same issue? In Petoskey I had it washed with the pros, this weekend these guys just used the system to rinse out, quite possible to get water inside since pressure was pretty good? So, to clean, just soapy water or other suggestions? I am sure the gen will run soon, so we can prove the theory. BTW, it is not oily, very dry, and wipes off easily. Thanks

Never let anyone power wash your roof. That action is notorious for blowing off the caulking resulting in possible leaks later., let alone shooting water where it doesn’t belong.

Lessons learned, will take the advise. Still the coach RV pros should know the spiel. For now I will clean the roof, and monitor thereafter, thanks

Don’t even let anyone on your roof.

The washing “pros” could care less about the damage they do with the pressure washer as long as the coach looks good. Only later do you find the damage a pressure washer does to your coach, roof included.

A diesel exhaust is going to “spit” slugs of moisture and dirty carbon soot. When the pipe is cold the water will noit be in the form of vapor, but actual drops of water. Unless you are in a contest to see who has the cleanest roof don’t worry about it. Nobody here will tell that you have a dirty roof.

what about a flap that opens when the generator runs. You see them on trucks and Dozers.
