Generator overspeed shutdown.
Powertech 17.5 kw gen set with Izusu engine. Unit has been working great. Unit ran all night Thursday night, shut it off Friday morning, restarted at about noon, ran for about 5 minutes, no load other than charging and shutdown with an overspeed fault. Reset fault, same thing again. Trying different things, found if I loaded generator with the air or heat pumps on it would continue to run but when I turned all load off, it went into overspeed fault again.
I backed the governor limit screw back one turn to slow the unit down, still went into overspeed shutdown, before it did, the inverter showed an error light indicating out of frequency range. So slowing the unit down did not correct anything, by listening to rpm, it does not seem to speed up any, so I am asking for opinions, what is likelyhood of overspeed sensor being bad? I haven’t looked for a sensor yet, thinking I will pull wire off and see what it does, I’m assuming sensor will probably short to ground to kill the engine.
The owners manual leaves a lot to be desired, not much help.
