Usually the shops just take a sample of the oil and send it in to a lab for analysis. Oil sampling is great if done regularly to establish trends. I don’t do it for the bus but when I had my plane, I did oil sampling and always cut open the oil filter to check for metal. The rule is you do not want any pieces of metal large enough to show part numbers .

No diagrams from Marathon Jim, I’ve tried many times in order to try and trace a problem.
I also can’t get any pneumatic diagram, trying to find the source of a marathon aux leak somewhere in the house and you just have to start taking things apart. I talked to Coburg on Friday and was told look here, look there, but there are no drawings. Frustrating….

No problem Walt, I can send them anywhere you want, with a few exceptions. I too can’t do it anymore, have to rely on others.

Great group (buses and owners!)

5 years. Think they can be causing this? I know they are 5 because the dude at Marathon mentioned it but I needed to get out of there so I figured I’d get a new set on the next trip….

Great points Jon.
During one of my banking jobs we sent out a survey to everyone who closed a home loan with us. We asked the basic questions looking for satisfaction with the overall experience as well as the individuals the consumer worked with (loan officer, processor, closer).
We had a general freeform question about what the consumer didn’t like about our process, procedures, and their experience with us. That was a real eye opener. Our consumer were very adept at pointing everything wrong with what we were doing. In some cases their complaints were about state and federal regulations and disclosures we couldn’t control. But much of their feedback was legitimate criticism of processes and procedures we had spent lots of time and money creating and were pretty proud of; until we read the questionnaires.
I can’t remember exactly how the question was worded, but it was something like “What didn’t you like about your experience? What should we considering changing?”
From Prevost’s standpoint, a simple question at the end of the survey would have given them a bullet point list of things to work on.

Dan watch this link to a video of a bridge collapse about 2 hours south of us. It’s wet here in Texas.

I just replaced 2 new Mach 15,000 A/C’s and the filter is a joke at best. Barely enough room to get your arm/hand up in the hole. The other 2 Mach’s are about 5 years old and after looking at the filters with a flashlight, wasn’t worth trying to remove. I think you’ll find they may be missing and if so, don’t worry about it.

Southern Oregon Diesel does not work on buses anymore. They rented/ leased out the big shop. Now they focus on diesel pickups.

Thanks for all the info everyone!

Thank you guys. I did not even think to look in all the product literature that came with the coach. It would appear I can pull the cartridge from the shower side and hopefully not replace the entire mixing valve. Maybe this will be as simple as cleaning it. I will let you all know this weekend.

I have some answers. Last night when this began inverter one was flashing the AC1 light telling me that shore power was at the coach, but not in good at the inverter. By this morning that light was not blinking even though inverter two had good power.
I had to wait until the evening for the storms to pass so I could check it out. There was good power on both sides of the breaker once I finally found the panel inside the church. I thought maybe I had installed this plug in 2003, but on closer inspection, I knew I had not. I had never been inside the room where the panels are located. Plus someone had ran a 15 amp house plug and piggybacked off the 50 amp plug. Ouch!
When I checked the voltage on the plug itself, one side had solid power and the other side showed signs of past burning and it had intermittent power. Holding my meter leads firmly the 120 volts would come and go.
I turned the breaker off, removed the plug and it literally came apart in my hand.
It has been burned for a long time, maybe from a lose connection on one the the hot sides.
I was able to fish some slack from a wire trough on the inside of the wall into the box and cut off a couple of inches of wire that was brittle from the heat. I bought a 50 amp box and plug from Home Depot and now it is back in business.
Everything is fine in the bus with shore power connected. I hope the crazy power I was getting from that burning plug did not do any damage to the inverter.
Thank you for your help.
Davy
