Marathon Roof Air Filters and such
I’m slowly checking off my “to do” jobs on my new-to-me 08XLII Marathon. I found the dash air filter and cleaned it. My guess after seeing it is that it hadn’t been cleaned in ten years! After actually reading (really!) the Marathon manual, I looked for the roof a/c filters where the book says:they are; “under each a/c unit “(Mine has 4). The picture below shows what I found…..nothing. I’m wondering if any Marathon XLII owners can shed some light on where the returns and filters are or are the filters just missing?
The other issue is black deposits around most of the vent holes in the ceiling. Looks like accumulated soot/dirt ?? Any thoughts?

Not soot…flat black spray paint.
Remove A/C access panel one large, one smaller.
Not a roomy workplace.
I always wear latex gloves when working with ceiling panels.

Thanks Al, I did pull the large access cover off and found….nothing. What did I miss?

It should contain wire mess screens ? Snap a couple of pics of inside.
There are stories of owners removing filters when they think air flow will increase.

I will. I hope they’re not gone. If so, I fear for the longevity of my units.

I just replaced 2 new Mach 15,000 A/C’s and the filter is a joke at best. Barely enough room to get your arm/hand up in the hole. The other 2 Mach’s are about 5 years old and after looking at the filters with a flashlight, wasn’t worth trying to remove. I think you’ll find they may be missing and if so, don’t worry about it.

Where is the dash air filter located?

Tom, On the third step up, on the right, there’s a 10×7? Rectangular grill. Take it off with 4 screws and pull the loop sticking out of the left side of the hole. That’s the filter. It should slide right out. If I can, I’ll post a pic later.

This is a shot of what I guess is Marathon’s take on a filter. I did take it out and it basically just keeps out small birds, (pretty minimal). Is this all there is?

Behind the filter their is a hole in drain pan.
This drain pipe / hole can become plugged as mine was …drip tube drains under bus.
Has a duck bill bladder tube same as A/C water drains. Find the correct one.

Where/who installed the 15,000 for you? Did you have 15,000 before or 13,500?
I had my 13,500 replaced with 15,000 and had all kinds of problems as the system wasn’t designed for them and had them all switched out to 13,500s
