To Prevost paint experts:
I’m really disappointed that the clear coating on my 1998
coach (W2312) apparently did not bond properly to the base coat under it.
Bubbles appeared in the roof clearcoat just shortly before it began coming off
in big sheets and finally blew away completely, leaving only the white base
coat. No, the coach paint has never been pressure washed. The clearcoat on the
lower bay door panels went next, leaving only the edges remaining. Now all the
clearcoat on the coach is peeling. It really makes my expensive coach look
terrible. I’ve been told the adhesion between coats of paint is time critical
and failures are usually associated with the application process rather
than the paint itself.Repainting is a very expensive process that I would hate to
think must be repeated every ten to fourteen years throughout the life of the
coach. My coach will never enjoy the luxury of enclosed parking. If I fail to
keep it waxed, I would anticipate the paint might become dull or faded, but how
do I keep the clearcoat from bubbling up and separating altogether? I realize,
of course, that rock chips require special care, but what about non-rock chip
areas? Must I resort to a polyurethane paint system like Dupont Imron that does not require a
clearcoat?Does Prevost Car ever work directly with a coach owner on an
individual basis, assume some responsibility for a paint failure and share in
the cost of restoring a coach’s finish to the excellent level of craftsmanship the company is famous for?Respectfully,
Ron Walker

Jon,
Thanks for the compliments. I don’t know about being a pro though. Just a self taught old country boy that has learned just about everything I know in life the hard way.
I don’t do book learn’n too well so I get in there & get dirty. Once I take it apart, I figure out how to put it back together. (or chuck it and go buy new! LOL! But since I ain’t rich I usually figure out how to fix it.)
I grew up in Indianapolis and hung out in my dad & uncles garages while they worked on race cares while I was a kid. Never missed a chance to go to the track, or any of their friends garages either.
As I got older I started working on my own stuff. By the time I was 14 I had my own ’69 Grand Tonio and tore it down and rebuilt it.
I also started driving tow trucks when I was 14. And still enjoy doing it today. (only occassionally)
I have owned, drove & worked on big trucks most of my adult life and in 2004 my dad an I started a charter bus company as a retirement project for him. It has grown into a full time job for my dad, mom, sister, myself and part time jobs for 1/2 dozen drivers, and a bus washer/shop hand.

I wouldn’t claim to be an expert, but when I have to I tear it apart, find out what makes it tick and reassemble it.
Oh and on the registration thing it was as I said.
When I first went to register I tried to use the link for registering in the upper right corner. And it kept coming up as “page unavailable.”
So I just figured I was being blocked for owning an “Elite fleet of Setra’s LOL (Jest kidding.)

I noticed DKO mentioned turning off shore power and inverters. It may have been unnecessary because chassis and house batteries should not be connected in any way with the possible exception of a provision to join the two sets of batteries via a relay or switch to aid in starting the coach if required. That way DKO could be watching the big game on the entertainment center while he was working.
Actually even though it may not have been necessary he made a wise choice by placing safety first. A person wise on these buses once showed me how it was always best to verify all electrical sources of power are dead when working on any part of the electrical system. This cautionary advice he gave me is doubled when dealing with inverters.
The installation looks real nice and clean.

Tom,
The Royale group is in section HH. I suspect they have the whole section and thats why nothing is open in HH on the web site.

Courtney Fox has just informed me that Bella Terra is booked solid already with another rally on the original dates I requested (March 15-18, 2012). So it looks like we’ll have to move to the weekend before (March 8-11, 2012). I sincerely hope that this change doesn’t negatively impact anyone who has already expressed interest, but the adjustment is unavoidable. Courtney has confirmed that the weekend of March 8-11 is available, so there won’t be another date screw-up (he says with confidence).

So….
If you are interested in meeting/fellowshipping with like minded POG bus nuts while enjoyng large quantities of fresh gulf oysters (currently going for only $4.50 a dozen according to Courtney) and the adult beverages of your choice, along with a few special events/surprises – then get your name on the list and let’s make this the best Oysterfest so far!
I apologize sincerely for the date change (This rally coordinating stuff ain’t for sissies!)

Since fire a skeleton of There is just one left there above right rear wheels . Was just wondering if someone had been into theirs lately and remembered where it was located. Have found out for most part drawing are correct but with occasional revisions/locations. Trying to match what is left of plastic (melted) air lines with drawings. Going to pull control line off norgen valve (un affected by fire) on ouside of rear of rear bagage bay and blow air into it and see if it come out flip flop control valve for lift …..Could be tomorrow today just could be a lazy day off. Said valve has a green brake indicated line going to it. need to put brain around it…. lot easier to just change parts out. Bob
