Chuck: Please post a picture of your installed charger. I’d like to install the charger flat against the ceiling (because that should be easier), but the instructions say it should be mounted vertically vs horizontally.

I painted the engines on all my coaches. The prep work involved removing any built of grease or dirt and grease combined, then wiping it down with a decent solvent. I used laquer thinner. I degreased it with Simple Green.

I have used sparay cans of Rustoleum silver as well as brush on Rustoleum silver on the first engine whish was an 8V92.

On the second one I used Tractor Supply green brush on which wasn’t exactly the color but it looked good.

On the current coach I had a big chip and Loew’s matched it close. The original Detroit Blue shifts color after it ages so my engine is closer to the color it had become, and not what it looked like when new.

That’s the second bus and it was aged about 5 years since it was painted. I think the darker areas have more to do with the surface of the casting than the paint job or color. The devil is in the details so I used a flat black to paint the bolt heads because before painting they had a black finish.

    John,

In 25 years of coach ownership and 16 years of luxury coach ownership, we have never had anyone bang on the door asking for money, but then we almost always stay in a campground, and of course we are not as rich as you are!;) The only time we have been asked to see the coach (last one or this one), were fellow campers, like the nice couple we met in RMR. The wife asked to see the coach, and Margrit gave her a tour, and got a tour of their brand new Allegro Bus. The wife really liked our large windows, but Margrit liked our coach much better.

We also talked to a FMCA national director camped next to us in a fairly newTradition, and while he didn’t ask to see the coach, he expressed interest in a non-slide Prevost–he was tired of messing with slides. I told him about Al’s coach, which is probably one of the best coaches for sale for the money. Interfacing with other campers exposes more folks to Prevosts, and some are starting to realize owning a Prevost is not as impossible as they think. We hear stories about how they spend as much time getting warranty work done as you would spend zeroing out a coach, but of course the warranty work is free. But it is a indication of the quality issues with new coaches costing as much as a mid-2000 Prevost.

The thickness of the Centramatics is so thin I am pretty sure it is far less than the spacing of a thread. I’m guessing in the neighborhood of 25″ thickness. They should not affect your available stud length enough to require any change to what you use for caps now.

We have had the coach for one year and when i replaced the battries last fall i had them on a battery Maintainer, now that we are on the road and at a rvresort i found that they will drain even with the switches off. I have disconected them and have them on a trickel charger. I will check to see if the switch is truly working at the back of the switch. The light on the dash for the 12 volt master through me as i thought it would not lite if the switch was turned off.

Check the switch, see if it is sticking.

In response to the comment from the UKGuy, Heck yeah that MH in the #1 lane, a good indicator of bad judgement, is following way too close to that itty-bitty little car in front of him. In the USA the lane skip lines are cycled every 40 feet. The skip is 10′ and the gap is 30′. So in this case using the skip line dimensions as the measurement reference dimension, the plastic coach is less than 80′ behind the car. The car can probably stop within 175′, the MH can in no way stop that quickly, maybe in the range of 400′. The other considerartion is reaction time. Typically 1.5 seconds is the amount of time required by the average driver to process the situation and begin application of braking. At 55 MPH that is a distance of 132′. So the MH would already be rear ending the little car and then pushing it somewhere down the road a distance of about 400′, not giving any contribution to the little car for increased braking force. Not a positive result there.

So moral of this story is back off and get out of the #1 lane. Andre was, in my way of thinking, doing the right thing using the #3 lane and driving with an increased gap, approximately 120′. It just goes to show that things happen that are out of our control. Be thankful you were not on the side of the Interstate for too long. I know it is a scary place to be since I was stranded on the shoulder of I-40 on the westbound, downhill side at Black Mountain for 8.5 hours waiting for a tow truck. I would have been very relieved had my problem simply been a blown tire which resulted only in damage to the tire. In my case the engine was an 8V-92, which only traveled 245 miles on an in chassis engine rebuild. It threw a rod out the curbside of the engine block. The chrankshaft journal was visible and there was no rod end cap in sight. When the grandson saw the hole he said, “Papa, how we going to fix that?” As Art Linkletter frequently said, “Kids say the darndest things!”

Oh yeah, there were many LEO’s that went past. None of them stopped to give aid or assistance. Big disappointment there.

    Mark,

Is Signature in the old Marathon facility?

We may be in Anaheim and it would be good to know that there is a good Prevost conversion, repair facility nearby .

    Thank you,

    Chris

After contemplating all the advice above, I decided to give myself a raise to cover bus expenses rather than muddy the waters with my occasional business trips. It will be much cleaner this way. Thank you all for your insight.

With respect to the business owning the bus, when I first registered the coach a few years ago, Explorer would not insure it as a business.

    Libby,

    Your
shore power outage will cause your inverters to invert using your
house batteries and when the auto-start parameters are met with the
watch dog, assuming you have it on, the gen will start and run for a
    per-determined amount of time.

    Jeff,

Regarding having only one inverter controlling the auto start, we have both of ours on auto and it seems to work. Should we change it to only one?

    We have an H3 2004 Vantare .

    Thank you

Do you have both inverters set to run the auto-start? That may be part of the problem and solved by just one inverter controlling the auto-start function.

Cupping or scalloping as you are describing is usually related to balance and or worn shock.
