Blown Tire- not having fun
On I-295 going around Richmond, Va, hear a loud bang. Pull over and find inside dual on right side blown, but not shreeded.
Now the fun starts.
Call “Roadside Assistance” number on my Progressive Ins. card. Explain my problem in great detail, their answer is to tow me. They would not send a tire repair truck. Made myself very clear that they were no help.
Start calling local places near where I am and find a place with the right tire in stock, BUT:
They don’t take credit cards over the phone. They need a “will call” number for $500 from a company called “CommData” just to come out.
So I start that process. What a pain. Three phone calls, call to my bank, conferenece call with CommData and bank. Finally credit card charged.
Now call truck tire place back and give them the “Will Call Number”.
Blow out happened at 1115 it is now 1:15 and the tire truck will be anther hour before it shows up.
Good thing I am retired and have the time to deal with this. Luckly my destination for today is only another hour down the road. Looks like an adult beverage night coming my way.
Jon/ Tom, how abput getting a nationwide tire deal like the NAPA deal? One phone call to fix my problem? To bad we don’t have a road side asistance card that works like the NAPA and Fuel card.

Your problem lies with your insurer who has no clue about a Prevost.
Are they f*****g serious about towing a coach with a blown drive axle tire? Was the tow driver going to pull a steer tire to replace the blown drive tire so you could be towed? What if your coach had 365 tires on the steer?
The problem is we cannot fix stupid and your insurer needs to refund your money because they did not deliver on promised service. Did you have your toad and does the tire company have a store you can drive to with your credit card or cash? I cannot wait for Peter to jump in on this one.

You are 100% correct. I have had the same insurance for 15 years. About 14 years ago I had a blow out on my 1st plastic coach and the same company I have now sent out a truck to take care of me. Everything worked out just fine.
This time no luck, the call center just did not have a clue. Working with Miller Insurance rep now to try and get it all worked out.
I exlained in great detail the issue of towing with a blown tire. My wifes parrot understands more then the people I spoke to in the call center.
Hopefully in another hour or so we will be back on the road.

Sorry you’re having problems. Agree with Jon. Can’t fix stupid…and there is a whole bunch of it out there these days, unfortunately. Hopefully no other damage done??

The Michelin Advantage Program is really unbelievable in resolving blown tire issues,just list the credit card with them and then they send a truck with the correct Michelin tire to install.

Sorry for your problem Andre, sounds like you’re doing the best you can. Any idea what caused the blowout?
By coincidence I was just talking to my friend who owns Action Tire and he said the same thing Jack said, use the Advantage program for tire help. They also have a new App for everyone except Jon.

I purchased 4 in March and I think they were about $550 each,but my memory is not perfect.

Get coach net and they will get you a tire no worries and they pay ask for the tire program I get my tires from Prevost if I have a problem they get me one from where ever but it is a michelin, I can’t believe the stupid things people do or say when people have a blow out or need a new tire , you have got to be kidding me tow it I would like to see that , unless it was on a trailer,I think I will have a drink too !!!

After a total of 4.5 hours on the side of the road we got back on he road. Now at our destibnation and everything is OK. After all the issues I had, once the tire repair truck showed up things went very well. The driver was a real professional and got the job done in no time. My whole problem was caused my me expectng that the road side assistance that I pay for with my bus insurance would actually work when I needed it. Silly ME!!
I will look into coach net and the Michelin advantage program. They have to be better then what I have with Progressive.
The tire had a side wall blowout, which was likely caused by a piece of road debris that I may have run over. I will post a picture later when I have time. The road debris was a truck driveshaft laying in the middle of the road. It appeared right in front of me after a truck in front of me passed over it. I thought I had managed to pass over it with out hitting it, but the end of it must have hit the sidewall and damaged it. That happened Thursday and the tire did not blow until today.

Ah Andre, Pressure Pro would probably have saved your day as pressure went down.

I have a Pressure Pro. Did not lose any presuure. It just blew all at once. I do need three new sensors. Batteries dying on 3 of my sensors. Had a good sensor on the tire that blew. Doesn’t do much good when pressure goes from 96 to 0 in .1 second. So be it. Some things just happen and not much we can do about it.

What I find amazing, especially after reading these stories about coach tires blowing out in really hot weather, is the stories I hear about the dirt late model and World of Outlaws sprint car racers driving their 600+hp toterhomes and huge trailers 85 and 90mph from one end of the country to the other. Barreling across the country at those speeds makes no sense to me whatsoever.

Sorry to hear about your blow out. I had a blow out in Casper WY Good Sams had the tire guy on the job within 1/2 hour. I also had the tire valve brake in the garage, the got Glen tire in Cocoa to replace the valve at $850 cost.
Glad you and Ann made to your distination without any more problems.

I misunderstood you Andre, I thought you said the damage was caused a day earlier and I assumed the tire was losing air. Any tire monitor system won’t help much in case of a blow out as you described from a road hazard.
I moved this to General since you had it well in hand when posted.
