Hi Art
I would bet that its evaporating off of that wet concrete slab. Water in the air will always try to find the coldest surface it can. Since it is colder at night and the thermal mass of the engine will stay cold as the temperature outside increases. The best that thing you could do would be to find a way to keep that concrete from having standing water.

MemberOctober 25, 2022 at 10:39 am in reply to: How far do I go with this? etc. 1989 XL CC 8v92TAChuck, funny you should ask. First off , there was no coolant in the air box and no evidence that it was being burned in combustion, so I assumed it was getting into the oil return gallery from the top of the head. I told the machine shop that I was looking for a coolant leak when I took the heads in to be rebuilt. When they called me to let me know the results of the magnaflux testing I asked them if they found the coolant leak. They said they didn’t know they were looking for a coolant leak and they sure could have looked for one if they knew they were looking for one. Grrr. So, Someone dropped the communication football. I will assume that it was an injector tube seal.

AAP is gone?!
I still get a recording every time I call.
Good thing I checked the forum.
As for compressors, the suggested replacement is the 15k btu one, correct?
I heard that wanderlodge owners are swapping for ducted mini splits…might be worth a closer look…but I am not a member of their forum…
Ernie might be able to help, we is active in both groups.

I used NTCS just a few weeks ago for personal car tires. No issues and good response. Have not used them yet for the Prevost tires, but have received the pricing for the 12R22.5 that I need. Unfortunately, the BFG ST230’s that I want are not on the price list.

The best penetrating solution are
1. 50/50 acetone- dextron
2. Kroil
3. P B Blaster
Might be worth considering

I took another try at the soapy water for leak checking and found a couple. The drain valve on at least 2 air tanks (on driver side) that connect directly to an air bag are leaking. Not sure if I was just not soaking them enough last time, or just totally missed them. Regardless, what joy it is to find an air leak! There may be others, as I only have the driver-side fender off right now. These look like typical 1/4″ NPT mini-ball valves, but I have not removed one to confirm.
A couple of the Norgrens actually look kind of new, and couple perhaps original. I am going to leave those alone now until I triple check all connections with soapy water. Soapy water, ball valves, and teflon tape is certainly a lot cheaper…

I don’t recall fully what all was done here. i believe that coach was a non slide h chassis. i know we had repaired a few normal air leak issues and did a visual inspection. i don’t recall how in depth we went. John Hawkins is a good guy and i have not seen or heard of him trying to pass off a coach that wasn’t honestly represented. Obviously every coach will most likely have some minor issues that might have been missed and that’s where a buyer should test every function and fully understand when parts have been serviced or replaced. If you have any questions give us a call and i should be able to have someone who worked on the coach answer questions better than i can.

are you just needing the aprox 1 ft by 53inch piece below rub rail?

Sorry, Tom. I wasn’t familiar with M&G? Thought maybe it was a system similar to Blue Ox? Or, is it a separate braking system (like Air Force One) that is used in conjunction with Blue Ox? Just meant whatever tow arms are connecting the toad and bus will experience a lot of added twisting and compression without some sort of toad braking system assistance. Wouldn’t it?

Another thing to keep in mind in this discussion is the economics and quality of offerings pertinent to a Li conversion have changed dramatically in just the last couple of years. This is true both in terms of the Li batteries themselves and also of the needed extra/replacement electronic components. Where Jon’s comment about not making the change for economic reasons was true for him when he did his conversion, for many of us that would not be true today.
The price per available amp hour for seemingly good quality, well supported batteries has dropped by at least 50%. The price for seemingly good quality B-to-B chargers, alternator protection devices, battery monitors, and MPPT solar chargers have also seen a similar drop in price. What has not changed in price is the cost of quality marine grade multi-strand large gage wire, the required terminal ends and the crimping devices. Be especially careful with the inexpensive crimping devices. Many, especially the hydraulic ones, are incapable of making the gas tight crimp you need to prevent unwanted resistance at the wire connectors. The crimp may look “good” but not be electrically good which can drag down the performance of the whole system.

Yep thanks Billy/Tom. Yeah I did more research on the POG site and found more info. The temp on my trip home was right around 100 most of the trip until the sun went down and then it stayed above 95 degrees. Billy are all three of your units up front behind the bumper? I have to do a better search because I thought all three of my units were there, maybe not. My salon unit worked fine the whole trip. Gonna check it out this weekend.

Awesome write up David. Thanks! Like Tom, I’m getting the sensors.
I will probably change them now, and carry the old working parts for spares, and the necessary tools.

Michael,
Don’t take this wrong but:
It would take about a 2 hour bullshit session at the campfire to get you straight.
Where in the world do you own all this property where real estate is going down?
Buying a coach in any market is always about knowing what you are buying and being able to decipher if in your mind it is a fair deal. Buying in what you think is a down market does not mean your going to get a better deal if you don’t know what your buying. In any market swing by the time you read about it on the Internet it’s already gone.
You mention coach listings. On POG the other day I counted 44 buses 20 to 30 years old that I would not let a friend of mine buy not because of which converter but because 99% of them had cruise airs, that’s a deal breaker. Back in the day you didn’t have many other options but now you do.
You understand putting 50k into upgrades for you is only going to satisfy you because it won’t get you a dime more when you sell it.
Paralysis of analysis will kill any deal.
