Weve seen a coach converted by Regal

My evaporator and condenser fans never cycle when ac is selected unless R38 and/or R39 solenoids are going bad. Here are 2 threads on the subject

Dick this is gonna be kinda long but I’ll share my limited experience. A little history –
Out of HS went to work for UPS. Stayed thru college, then drove delivery truck and ended up in mgt, lastly automotive. Got exposed to lots of OTR tractors and equipment and loved it. Still have nothing but admiration for that company. Best run/managed oragnization I have ever been associated with bar none.
Left after 11 yrs for a simpler life (wife was tired of me never home) and was fortunate enough to be hired by a large metro Fire Dept. During my almost 25 year career there (now retired), spent probably 2/3 of that time behind the wheel of 2 (Dept had 4) E-One chassis, one with 135′ aerial and another 95′ platform. Same chassis, 8V92 T/A engines, Allison trans with retarder. These 4 rigs were the only ones in dept with trans retarders. They did make a noticeable difference – although maintenance shop heavily advised us not to use – due to trans heat. I always used them – had a left foot pedal left side of steering column. These rigs had an empty weight of 68,000 before any gear was added/loaded. And they carried ALOT. Hendrickson walking beam rear suspension. They had about ONE good hard stop on brakes – then that retarder was worth its weight in gold.
Side note – some of the lighter (relatively) pumpers and telebooms had TELMA retarders which were amazing. Huge electromagnet assy on trans output or driveline. Dept eventually got away from those claimed they ate alternators.
For the last 30 years did my fair share of part-time truck driving for various companies. Where I noticed a difference in Jake brakes was hauling fracking sand. These loaded were ALWAYS 80,000-80500. As much as I am a CAT fan, the Cummins ISX’s had really good jakes – better than anything else I’d experienced other than TELMA’s. These trucks were all 379’s (there’s a reason for that besides style. They are lighter than comparable KW, Intl etc). The C15 twin turbo Acerts, nor the Paccar MX pulled as hard as the ISX equipped trucks did – hard for a CAT fan to admit.
No Series 60’s in that mix, been in plenty of them in tractors doing contract mail runs (Plenty of FD rigs with them also – replaced the 8V and 6V engines). This was in the 90’s, mechanic there told me once the 60’s showed up he really didn’t do engine work just changed components (starters, alternators, wp’s, dryers etc). This terminal would run them 1 million miles then send them to larger terminal/bigger shop and run there. Prior to that was mechanical Cummins that he was inframing at 400-500K.
Also did some time pulling doubles for FEDEX GROUND for a now deceased friend that had contracts. Freightliner Cascadia with DD15. Very comfortable.
Before I retired I bought a Pete 379 ext hood with a CAT 3406E / 13 spd double over. Had it 5 yrs never pulled a thing but it is staying just because I like it – jake works well bobtailing!
Sorry for the lengthy reply – maybe there is a tidbit in there somewhere you may find useful.

Jim I am well, thanks for asking.
I still own a small apartment overseas so I may end up just heading back there after all this blows over…if it does.
Will probably wait another year and see what happens.
I hope everyone here is doing well and staying sane during these times.

I’ve got it powered up for now but still don’t know what it’s driving. I’ll figure it out later when I have more time.
liberty is not very responsive right now. Probably related to the pandemic. But I’ve left two messages with the assistant service manager (service managers voice mail has been full for a week and you just get disconnected). So outside of the receptionist answering phones – she is just passing the phone to their desks and it doesn’t seem like they are being answered. But again – I imagine they are being affected by the pandemic.

You mentioned changes to the coach so Liberty may not be able to help you. If the third solenoid does look like it was installed originally by Liberty someone there at Liberty should point you in the right direction.
But you may have a situation where you just have to energize it or disconnect it and see what works or doesn’t.
Is there anyone on the forum with the same vintage Liberty that may still have an owner’s manual with a possible answer?

I was thinking of the silver”solenoids” such as the type that used to be used on old cars for starting so I was sure that was what you meant.
My 87 Liberty was an all 12 volt system but it did not have an electrical bay, but at least 3 12 volt DC panels in the back of cabinets in the house, My 97 was a 24 volt coach with an electric bay so as you can see my knowledge of how Liberty did yours is zero.

I think solenoid and relay are almost interchangeable. But usually a solenoid is the round cylindrical ones and relays are the square ones. But they are termed interchangeably.
im rewiring my coach. New inverters new disconnects fuses etc. so some things are offline right now and the way they wire with this mid fwd dash and other loads – just trying to determine what it is before getting all the loads operational.
-
By solenoid do you mean relay?
I’m not being a smart ass, but in the absence of an answer from Liberty disconnect a wire from the coil (not a load wire) and see what doesn’t work, or in the reverse, use a jumper to power the coil to see what is working.

Reading your first post, I’am thinking about what is he talking about “front end conversion”?
Never in my thinking did I put it together exactly what was going on until I saw the picture. That is a first in all the years on PC and what the hell we’ll do it in the driveway in the dirt
Keep the pictures coming…

Corona virus Scary ?
Driving a 23 yr old bus from the left coast to the right coast and back is not scary? -
The pictures do not match up. Check the RF pictures closely???

Hello,
With the testing kicking into gear the next few weeks, I think we will know more. As a country we are so behind on this.
Thanks

This Precision BIM seems like a good option for those with chassis and house charging off the alternator. My Renegade has one, but it’s the non Lithium version.
