Are they the XL orig type from Prevost? If so do you want to liberate or sell them?

Thanks, Jon. I appreciate the explanation, which helps me understand my bus better. There is what appears to be a separate solenoid behind each micro-switch, but no “train.” They all function independently. I understand the purpose is to simplify the switch controls and lessen the amount of wiring needed, such as for the living room lights for which there are 5 different on/off switches. My system is pretty simple, with mechanical dimmers on just 3 circuits and no Crestron or anything like that, just switch pads throughout the bus. As my knowledge of electronics is weak, I like the simplicity. The downside is that in order to shut off all the lights, I have to separately press the button for each circuit, rather than an “all off” switch. Not a big deal for me, but I can see how convenient a Crestron system could be.

Well, I just had a less than pleasant experience with “Dazzling Detailing” here at Tiger Run.

I had called last week for an appointment. The guy who answers the phone told me Sunday at 9:00 AM. So we got up and had everything ready. At 9:35 one guy shows up with the truck, but no help. He sat around until almost 10:15 before he started doing the wash. While he was working he told me that his boss had just called him and said he overslept and would be over. At 11:55 or so, the guy who was washing said he was done and would be back “in a little while” to get the waxing done, and wash the Jeep.

Fast forward to after 4:00 PM. No show, no call. So I call the number and get ahold of the guy who setup the appointment. He said they were not coming back until tomorrow because they didn’t have any jobs scheduled for Monday, and he gave the guy who actually showed up the rest of the day off.

I told him that was not acceptable, and he said too bad. We have been working for 18 days straight and I decided to take the rest of today off. He then said he was having trouble hearing me as he was driving up a mountain, and the call cut off.

I called him back and left a voice mail in which I told him not to come back, and that if he sent his helper over tomorrow I would pay him for what they had done, but we were not going to waste any more time waiting for them to finish, and since he was the one who set the date and time, it was not my problem he could not get up in the morning. About 5 minutes later he called back and told me to keep my money, they didn’t need it and to stuff it in my ass and go f*ck myself and hung up.

Needless to say, they are not on my Xmas card list any more. I informed the office here about it and they said they had some other people complain, but they are the only ones who will come here to wash. They had another guy, but he quit doing it about a year ago.

Interesting fact….they got their water from Tiger Runs spigot. He unhooked my hose and ran a hose to his filters in the truck, which feed his tank! So much for the bullshit about they bring their own water!!!!

I am not going to use this crew from Dazzling Detailing (out of Ft. Meyers, FL) for anything in the future. If enough people quit, maybe they will get a clue.

Hi Peter on my 1994 XL when you shut off the battery disconnect the door unlocks. That is if the engine is shut off. I wouldn’t try to disconnect my batteries with the engine running. Thanks again for the help.

Al, I know one of our advertisers is vbery excited about additives, but with almost 3000 miles using additives so far I have no measurable improvement in mileage.

I never established a baseline measurement for performance so I cannot say that has increased due ot the use of the additive. My most significan improvemant as stated above is related to deleting the EGR function. The stuff is still on the engine, but it is not functioning because it will not come on until my engine is turning 3200 RPM.

Roger, If your ECM is programmed as mine was to not turn off the EGR above a certain altitude the Ugly Fix will not work. I do not know how yours is programmed. They are supposed to not allow the EGR to function above 11,000 or 12,000 feet, but that was not how mine was programmed

I think that is the small idler pulley beneath the belt between the 90 degree gearbox and the fan clutch pulley.

That is a press fit bearing and any average parts store should have the replacement. It sounds crude but I believe a hammer and a drift pin will be all needed to knock the bearing out, and with care the hammer will put the new one in. Not sophisticated, but in a pinch will work.

We have mentioned to our members in the past that on occasion a good practice is to relieve belt tension and spin all pulleys by hand, listen for noise or sense “growling” as an early indication the bearing(s) are beginning to fail.

    I agree Sawbonz………..

    Merchandising and publicity stunt…….eh??

Thank goodness there are other brands just as good (maybe better even??)

I’m perfectly at ease with several others……..some rated higher than Michelin……..most cost less.

I even ran Yokohamas for 6 years on another coach………..smooth, like a baby’s bottom.

(and now the AMA says all peeps need to be taking statins???……..vital organ destroyers?..hmmmm)

    I am running 2013 Michelins tho…..315s…………Ol’Ben

The beauty of bus ownership is the owner can spend as little or as much as desired to maintain the coach.

But in the end if maintenance is deferred it sometimes gets significantly more expensive than if it had been done in a timely manner. Push the age of tires and risk the cost of a roadside replacement or worse serious damage as a result of the bad tire. Ditto with failed air bags. When one bursts you risk damage to a coach that is now sitting 4″ lower than the ride height and which has no suspension to absorb bumps.

Ignore the Norgren valves and trying to keep the coach level in a campground becomes a challenge.

The cost of ignoring the coolant change schedule could be a new engine.

These are not imagined issues, but issues that have been reported often on this forum and others. To buyers, pray you do not end up with a coach that looks great cosmetically, but has not had any effort made to deal with needed maintenance. Ask folks whose coaches did not have air system maintenance how much it costs to remediate the damage.

    Hey Per…….

Got it in February………. The Graphics?….yes!……..Done by ‘Starr’……….quite the genius with that stuff.

    We had several issues ……….

    Inverter #2 was shot…..fixed it at Inverter Services….almost painless….:>)

    The bra covered a disaster/ TV system(s) don’t work/…….more minor things…

My fault, kinda……..I had a very short time to go over the coach……..

The seller conveniently “forgot” to mention a few items…….backed up by Bruce of bruce coaches.

Bruce claimed he had maintained the rig for years and pronounced it sound and ready to go……he lied.

    Ready to go?….yes………..Sound and fit?……….eh?????

We’re slowly bringing er up to snuff……..rebuilt the inverter/ new Konis/ new front brakes/…..scheduled for more front end work (tie rod ends and some ‘loose’ stuff….my mechanical jargon)

Overall………I like it now…….will love the updated version.

One look and you gotta love er…………..!!

    {BTW………last I heard from Phil, he never got paid for the listing…….??}

whether the coach has a jake or a retarder it has likely been programmed to downshift upon application. With later model coaches some are programmed to drop down to 5th, some down to 4th.

They can be programmed to go to 1st if that is your preference, but the downshift will only happen to the programmed gear if the coach speed is within that gear’s range. In other words if the top speed in gear for 4th is 55 mph, and the coach is at 60 mph it will only downshift to 5th and will not drop into 4th unless the speed drops below 55.

The use of the retarder or jake takes a little getting used to and it is to a great extent fully controllable by the driver who has the ability to determine target speeds, setting of the jake or retarder and gear selection manually or allowing it to be selected by the programming or cruise control.

With today’s coaches and a skilled driver who anticipates his needs can go many miles in areas with steep grades that slow the coach going uphill, and never touch the brakes on the downhill side.
