    TAG1

First, I never planned on needing a tow. Unfortunately things do happen. My first experience was following a blown engine 245 miles after a shop in Raleigh performed an in chassis rebuild. The shop stood behind their work and sent an experienced tow operator from Raleigh to the west side of Black Mountain. This guy had metal covers for the removed axle and was able to use my existing gasket.

My second experience was this summer when a fitting failed under the kitchen sink that carried engine coolent to some heat exchangers. Your coach is the same age as mine, although I don’t have converter information in your profile, so you might want to pull the cover on the cabinet floor under the sink and look around. The fitting is/was a plastic “Y.” Over the 26 years with hot coolant flowing through it had eroded from the inside and eventually broke through. What a mess it was. Well we were 40 miles south of Indianapolis on I-65 and had no idea of what company would provide acceptable service. I emphasized it was a bus conversion weighing in at around 55,000 pounds. The company was suggested by the McAllister Machine Cat shop in NE Indianapolis, who were willing to investigate and repair the leak. They sent a tri-axle tow truck with “Police Impound” as part of the side graphics. They did not have a 10 lug cover plate. They did not know there was anything but eight bolt plates. Now I am getting a little worried. They took an eight bolt piece of plywood and drilled new noles to fit the ten bolt housing. In my case, some gear lube got past the plywood during the tow, possibly due to not having a ten bolt gasket. My old gasket was torn during axle removal.

So, while still not anticipating a third tow, I had the same thought. Find a ten bolt cover plate AND gasket. One thought, not knowing the availability of such a cover was to go to a wrecking yard and buy a used axle, cut off the cover from the shaft and find a new gasket to go with it. It would not add significantly to the weight of the coach and I would be prepared if and when I needed that third tow.

I’m glad to see the link and that is where I’m going now.

    Safe travels.

Dan, thanks, will do. I was not sure if further opening would impair the circulation of refrigerant to the compressor.

If you have a bus that can only generate 40 psi off the engine compressor with the Marathon aux joined to Prevost aux hooking a 150 psi comp to it will not hurt to flush a toilet A1.

Dan and Judy so glad to hear you and the dogs are ok. Sorry about the bus. You had it looking so good at the rally. You make my 85 mile trip in 8 hours on the freeway leaving Driggs sound like a pleasant drive.

    Thanks for your replies folks,

We often talked about the use of the Jake on hills. What about in town with traffic, is your Jake on? I’ve read some always have their Jake engaged, do you?

They are really lying when they talk about my speed. I will admit I can get wild and crazy, and in the 10 years I have had the Corvette I have had it as fast as 85 MPH, but today I might have gotten as high as 32, but not 42.

As to the phone………..give me a break. Those three are troublemakers. I demand proof I made a call, especially while driving as they allege. Everyone knows a car with a manual transmission prevents the use of a cell phone because a person cannot talk on a phone and shift at the same time. In fact cell phones are the very reason you can’t hardly by a car you actually have to drive.

That email with the 50% discount must have gone into your spam inbox. Darn, it expired yesterday!

Yes, Lars and I are Facebook friends and I initally briefly met him at the St. Lucie Motorcoach Resort when I was visiting in the Flxible and ran into him recently at Marathon in Florida. I think he was fielding offers from all the folks wanting to buy his beautiful and well maintained bus!

While Lars probably won’t say anything, he’s a boat racing legend. He was the fastest man on water…now he slowly merges onto the highway!

To clarify, there’s no covered garage spaces at Mountain Falls, but they do have some gorgeous cottage homes in the Ridge area. Talking to others, it seems they don’t get much snow or ice in that area, when they do, surely it will make it fairly difficult to get to the grocery store.

Like you Harry, I’d like to hear about other parks and resorts. I’m still checking them out and have a few other on the schedule for this Summer.

And thanks for the kind words on the video…I enjoy doing that stuff!

    Hey Allan ,

So glad You and Laurie had a enjoyable successful trip. I enjoyed reading Your post about traveling in Canada. The Misses said She would like to venture up there some day. If I ever make it , I will probably hit You up for some more info. Like , where is the best place to cross the border in Your opinion. But with Yourself being Canadian , The crossing guards would probably not give You as much grief as they do some Amuricans. I talked to a member from Texas the other day that had a funny story about flying to Detroit and renting a car and driving across the border to look at and purchase a coach. Anyway , You have a beautiful coach and Yes , I did finally get My jake brake fixed.

Was a pleasure to meet You both,

    Be safe,

    Rocky

    Tad,

You know there are Marathon fuses and breakers in your coach. Mine are in the rear closet and in the front overhead compartment.

I’ve had to replace one blown fuse which operated my under-cabinet bathroom lighting.

Have your replaced your halogen lights with LED lights yet? May also be some burned out bulbs. We highly recommend replacing all your halogen lights with LED lights for power management and heat control.

I have a variety of manual gauges and two electronic digital gauges. My primary gauge is part of a valve assembly that when I squeeze the handle the tire fills with air, and when I let go I read the tire pressure. It was from Griots Garage (https://www.griotsgarage.com/search.do?query=tire+air+pressure+gauge) and is the one on the left.

My digital gauges are within 1 PSI or right on what the Pulse shows, but the other gauges are all over the place and quite inaccurate. They are better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, but not by much.

Regardless I now have complete trust in the PP readings because I have compared my gauges to the PP readings so often and found them always in agreement What matters is that you set tire pressures to a known accurate reading, then set the PP so it knows the desired reading, set the alerts and trust it. But in your case follow what Tom said to determine the problem.

The tire position is the outer drive (left side). There is a flexible valve extension at this location. The TPMS sensors reads a higher pressure (+6 PSI). I swapped with another sensor and got the same reading. So the sensor reads higher than my two manual air gauges only for this particular tire. I can live with this but I am now thinking of removing the extension…….not sure why it was installed in the first place.

Haven’t done that one…yet! I have left two of my alter ego’s initials on wing surfaces while flush riveting….Clyde Cook and Oly Olson….and someone yelling out, “I was on the damn rivet”

Another SoCal boy….It’s all yours now!

Uses the same compressor and you can select dash, coach or both. The dash controls are different on the later models, Jon will pick this up I’m sure.
