“Great pics. Any advice on handling the interior ceiling?” Mike

Im using the non ducted ceiling kit. So the air blows straight from the bottom of the unit. I dont really care about having thermostats, they are either on high cool, or off.

Our coaches have an almost unlimited potential to leak air and coolant. Both have multiple fittings, devices, hidden areas, and age related possible sources.

Both ultimately require getting under the coach, inside compartments, behind service panels and both are from front to rear and side to side.

Coolant leaks that are slow such as one so small it takes a month to drain a gallon drip by drip are often only found by luck because if a gallon of water is about 60,000 drops, a month has about 43,000 minutes so you are leaking at a rate of a little over a drip per minute. If the coolant and it piping or hoses is as hot as the engine it is likely to evaporate before it is even visible.

So to find that one gallon per month leak you need to pressurize the system for a while and then get your face in every nook and cranny until you see or smell the coolant and can identify it as the leak source.

This may be heresy, but if I did everything I could do to find a coolant leak of a gallon a month and failed I would go the store, buy some Barr’s stop leak, dump it in and see if that did it. I regret saying that but unless someone has a fool proof way to detect those annoying little leaks what else could anyone do?

You will almost certainly have to convert from the 1/4. ISRI is german and use metric air line fittings. One connector is to the side (right side toward passenger). That is the height etc. The one in the back (its kind of attached to the back rail of the platform, is the lumbar. If you have a capped line off the tee, then it probably attaches to there if the seat has lumbar support. if it doesn’t is just tapped to possibly accommodate one that does.

Dont try compress fitting a 1/4in line to a 6mm line. it wont work, at least not well for long.

    That is disappointing.

Here is what I found when I had a chance to look this afternoon.

This plastic/nylon nut above was screwed onto this fitting below. The small piece of broken hose was under the nut and on the fitting.

There is no way I could tell the difference between 1/4″ and 6mm with my eye and there are no markings on the hoses. This is the tee. The 1/4″ from down below is the right side of the tee and the top and left sides go to the fitting above and the dead end.

I can see no markings on the tee either.

You warned me not to try to connect the 1/4 to the fitting on the seat and I appreciate the caution. Of course, that does not mean I will not try it IF all else fails.

Any recommendations on a fitting to reduce to 6mm or where to find 6mm hose?

The major reason for the price change is the way the majors buy fuel. The buy xxx gallons at xxx dollars for future delivery. When the oil prices tanked they wound up with some “expensive” fuel to sell. When they go thru that fuel and move to the next xxx gallons they will breathe easier again. This is why Flying J failed. They bought a bunch of fuel and the price tanked, having to sell it below cost put them out and Pilot bought them.

I never cease to be amazed at what people do to their coaches to fix a problem instead of doing it right.

The original equipment tank drain petcocks are reliable, available, cheap and yet if one leaks why not just put a pipe plug in the drain until a new valve can be put in place?

    That vintage OTR is 134A.

Just a guess, but the seal behind the compressor clutch would be the first place I would look. If it has wet oily grease behind the clutch that is likely the issue. 2-3 hours of labor and about $100 for the seal.

Steve, I just want to agree with the others, your fix was ingenious. Possibly the only mistake was not buying it full and drinking it down!

    Well done Steve,

Paul Newmans Bus was first XL to have slide rooms. There were three busses with sale paint scheme, only one with slides. Borgnine Coach was Beaver Bus 10. It’s one of a handful that had two pair of skylights in the ceiling of salon. Bus 10 now resides in Washington state with owners who bought it from Ernie. “On the Bus” video is Ernie’s next Bus. A 1994 Country Coach. If you noticed in video the Explorers’ toad front wheels don’t turn direction. Son, Chris Borgnine told me his father just straighten the Explorers steering; pulled key, drove off.

I am usually not afraid to take risks. However, i am not comfortable doing so when i am not in control. My biggest concern would be the effects of the restrictions that are being imposed and they are changing every day. Consider that it is possible that you may have a break down. You may be able to find an open qualified shop tomorrow but what about the next day. I agree with Dick in that it seems unlikely that they would restrict state to state travel. However, with the reaction from our government to this virus i would not be suprised if they started closing state borders. I for one will be staying put at least until the madness subsides.

Everyone has different tolerance for risk. Dick drives cars in a circle over 200 mph. Food for thought.

Dick I thought I was the only one that had this problem. After replacing 2 of the alum clutch hubs I have done this. I went with AX 73 belts They are about one inch shorter then th AX 74s. That being said I could not use the mini air bag. I made a mechanical tensioner instead. In my case the hub was hitting the cross brace on the radiator. Talked to several different people . All I got was never seen that before. Something is flexing some where. I have checked everything. Anyway here is a couple of pics.
