Deflating procedure
Posted by Calvin on March 9, 2020 at 4:30 pmWhat is the proper procedure for deflating air bags when parking for a week or more? Also wondering if it is ok to leave master switches (24v & 12v) in the on position when parked with shore power connected.
Thanks

Eugene,
When the coach is parked for the 30 years we have had them we deflate the air bags to lower the coach unless some need to be inflated to keep the bus level. I also do a major no-no and have for 20 years by driving with my air bags deflated completely or raised fully because of the slope of my driveway so while I am not advocating that they can take some abuse.
By lowering the coach all the way it is more stable, and it makes stepping onto the first step a little easier. It is not a good idea if the grass beneath the bus is deep because it will not allow the Cruisairs to draw in sufficient air for cooling the condenser coil, but on hard surfaces it is OK.
We typically do not use our coaches from May 1 until after Labor Day and we never turn off the master switches even for that length of time. Others turn off the switches whenever they aren’t driving. I guess that choice is a personal preference.

Deflating all the way until the bag sets on the internal stubber is not a good idea according to Prevost.

On turning off the master switch, hasn’t there been threads in the past discussing NOT turning off the master switch because of lost programming on items like electric window shades etc…

I asked Jeff that very question when I was up there last month. He said leaving the bus at drive height while in storage is perfectly fine.

I’ll repeat. I lower my bus all the way, and have had to for decades, not because I want to, but because I have to. It is not advocated, but I’m not only lowering them all the way, I am backing up my driveway (and going down it) that way because I have to and so far no known ill effects.
As to master switches, I think the question related to the chassis switches, and they have nothing to do with house system circuits. On the other hand, turning off the house master switches can be an issue, especially if not done in the manner suggested by the converter.

Actually, under most circumstances it is my practice to bring the coach into the garage fully lowered, leave it that way until we have emptied it from the trip, and then raise it all the way, put stands under it and leave it that way.
I usually deflate the air bags when it is on stands just to get the weight off the tires.
I prefer it up in the air for access to the pit, and so if I am in the pit under it, the coach is fully supported and will not drop.
There are times however when I want it low, such as right now because of removing the entertainment center and swapping out batteries. That is not normal, but I have no concerns about doing that because so far my abuse of the air bags due to my driveway has not had a negative impact.
Those that have not seen my driveway will just have to take my word for the fact I raise and lower my coach as needed to make the transitions from somewhat level ground at the bottom and the flat garage floor at the top, with a very steep incline in between. I have the potential to scrape the nose and tail and high center the coach if I do not go through the raising and lowering of the various parts of the coach at the appropriate times.
