    Really good job Don.

The main thing I dislike about Featherlite/Vantare of my vintage is…………..you cannot slide the Gen out to work on, so to replace the insulation above and behind the gen is almost impossible. Good news is up until now, I have not had to do anything other than regualar maintenence on it. On a previous Vantare i had a few years ago, the generator was running one day, and it started smoking black smoke badly, I opened the door, and some of the insulation had come off the door to the quiet box and got stuck in the air intake!!

There aren’t many “no excuse” coaches but this is one of them.

If people who claim to be looking in this age and price range don’t take advantage of this opportunity they aren’t serious.

Thanks Michael, I am very proud of it and really hate to see it go but I need more room.

Tried to make a deal with Nancy but she said Tom wouldn’t sign the check !!!!! 🙂

Just a reminder for those who run their house A/C while driving at one of our seminars the Inverter Service Company folks made it very clear that running A/C units through the inverters is hard on them. They agree if there is a need to run more than just driver’s air while traveling it is better to run the generator. Part of the reason is that in their opinion only the older Trace inverters were robust enough to handle the starting loads, and later model inverters may have similar ratings but are not as capable of handling the loads.

On thes forums we don’t do ourselves or potential buyers any favors because a lot of our discussions are about how to repair or replace things that break.

The reality is if you have a coach that has progressive maintenance, and you take care of little things before they become a real issue we have incredible reliability. To put that in context we all have fairly sophisticated houses sitting inside a motor vehicle. We not only have the potential for issues to do with the quality of the chassis part of our conversion, we have a house with a whole lot of features and sophitication that is getting vibrated by pot holes, expansion joints and other forces never experienced in the average home.

Then to further make this meanigful we have about 3100 members, with the vast majority being owners. Yet despite the size of the fleet that is represented here and the number of miles it travels annually we have relatively few problems being discussed, and of those very few are big ticket items like engines or transmissions.

A substantial percentage of my cost of operating the coach is dedicated to routine maintenance and replacement of parts to my schedule based on what I think is their useful life, and almost zero unplanned repairs.

You should have a selector switch on the side of the transfer switch enclosure that allows you to select the cord reel or the port or starboard outside receptacles.

Reporting back… The caulking makes a big difference, it probably took out 75% of the shaking and vibration. To remove, you just grab the end and it pulls right off. The photo makes it look cloudy, but it’s not.

    Ok ,

Just as Jon said about searching the correct words or phrase on the internet. I will try another route in asking a more specific question to the gurus. I know Jon previously owned a 40 XL Liberty coach. And Truk has owned some XL’s in the past. I know it has to do with the axle weight. As I stated in My original post. I just need to know roughly what pressures I should be running until I can get it weighed. I want to be SAFE as I can be to maximize My stopping ability. And take care of My new Michelins.

Jon , Do You remember what Your axle weights and tire pressures were on Your 40 XL Liberty with 315 tires and full of fresh water ? I bet You have a copy of the log book from every coach You have owned ?

Tom , Same Question on Your previous 40 XL’s ?

Or , If You were going to pick up a mid 90’s XL Liberty and drive it for a thousand miles and were unable to weigh it. What tire pressures would You run in it ?

    Thanks in advance,

    Safe travels,

    Rocky

Walt, you might want to hear from George and Corey before you extend your slide at a truckstop. I believe they did and George ended up outside at 3am chasing down a trucker in his underwear after he had hit his slide.

We do LOVES often overnight and never put out our slides for that reason.

I am plugged in to shore power. When the inverter shuts down, the ACs still work but the 110 wall sircuit is dead.
