Shore Power
I purchased a shore power cable (25′ 50 amp) to augment my built-in shore power cable reel. When the new cable is used, the bus will not recognize shore power. When I use the built-in cable, shore power is recognized and works perfectly. Is there a setting to allow for the use of this external shore power cable?

You should have a selector switch on the side of the transfer switch enclosure that allows you to select the cord reel or the port or starboard outside receptacles.

Are you using as a separate S/P connection or as an extension cord?

Not and extension cord, but a power cord. I want to make sure I have a back-up shore power cord, if my reel cord fails.

As soon as you see the switch try to use the external plug cord on both sides just to verify everything works. The receptacle on each side of the coach has its cable go to a heavy electrical connector and you just want to verify the two halves of the connector are still tight to one another. That way when you need to use the out side plug you know they both work.

transfer switch box, as you had advised.
The cable now works perfectly, and I have a b/u if my reel fails -

What is the best cord like that to buy? Marine grade? or RV grade? or is there a difference?
25′ enough?

Land Yacht , I would go with top shelf marine grade. Actually , I bet it is a marine receptacle ? I carry a 25′ with regular ends in case My cord reel is not long enough. And I think I have one for My old Silverton that I need to put on the coach. Just in case I need it. That would give Me 50′ . I have thought about starting to use that Shore power receptacle so I can leave the round black plastic disc in place to keep any curious field mice out. FWIW , A fresh dryer sheet in that bay will deter them. I try to put one in all My bays monthly.
