I’m glad you asked and I’m sure you’re not surprised that I have an answer!
Well, I don’t have all the answers, but “surfing the web” with Google yields some pretty good results. Here’s a quote I found on Netflix’s site:
“Watching TV shows or movies on Netflix uses about 1 GB of data per hour for each stream of standard definition video, and up to 3 GB per hour for each stream of HD video.”
So, if your streaming a two hour movie in HD, BAM…that’s up to six gigs of bandwidth or (if I’m doing the math correctly) that’s 25% of the monthly allocation on the FMCA/Verizon program.
I’ll add that while the motorhome manufacturers like to tout 4K TVs these days (that’s another conversation for another day as I don’t want Jon’s head to hurt), if you want to stream in Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) that setting can consume up to seven GB per hour.
But don’t worry, these settings are adjustable. Here’s how to adjust Netflix streaming limits: (Again, from Netflix)
-
Access your Account page from a web browser and select Playback Settings.
-
Select your desired data usage setting (please note that each estimate below is per stream, and that restricting data usage may affect video quality):
-
Low (0.3 GB per hour)
-
Medium (SD: 0.7 GB per hour)
-
High (Best video quality, up to 3 GB per hour for HD and 7 GB per hour for Ultra HD)
-
Auto (Adjusts automatically to deliver the highest possible quality, based on your current Internet connection speed)
-
-
Select Save
So, it’s a good idea that if you’re streaming Netflix on hotspot to check your account settings to make sure it’s not set to AUTO.
So, does this makes me a modern version of the Shell Answer Man? (If you remember that one, then yes, you’re old like me. But honestly, I was a mere child when Shell ran those commercials!).

Great idea Tom, thanks!

I assume my batteries are O.K. I am running 3 portable heaters on low. I don’t know if this has anything to do with it .For The last couple years when not using portable heaters in Florida, sometimes the webasto would try to fire but would not and I always found the one breaker on the Invverter popped. I reset and the Webasto would fire up and be O.K. for a while. On my Xantrex control panels inside the coach they both read CHARGE / INVERT / Float ……13.5 DC VOLTS . I don’t and never have pushed any buttons on these panels. I leave them alone as I bought it. I don’t know enough about them. I’m just trying to make it through the winter. I probably should buy new batteries in the spring if I find some place to do it…………Thanks Steve

I’m not sure what you mean about what happens at the end of two years, but after the contract period you’re free to cancel or remain on a month-to-month basis. However, I’ll predict that before two years, much higher speed services (such as 5G) will be available that will motivate the user to move to a new hotspot device and plan.

David,
Please put this on the map.

Thanks for the tip Joe. I race, so we have some pretty stout tape.
Tim: That’s my plan. Like they say on the Garage Journal Forum … “If there aren’t pictures, it never happened!”

Jon,
I use PEAK Fleetcharge Heavy Duty SCA precharged coolant. It is NOT one of the “long-life” coolants (containing carboxylic acid inhibitors). PEAK calls it “Fill-for-life”. It is fully compatible with standard SCAs.
Here is from their Q&A website:
Q:What is meant by the term Fill-For-Life technology?
A: The Fill-for-Life alternative provides for easy, low cost monitoring of the coolant inhibitor and freeze protection levels. Fill-For-Life is an extended service maintenance program developed by FLEET CHARGE® and Penray researchers. It is very simple. Users simply install a Penray Need-Release filter on an engine coolant system (up to 30 gallons). Every 18 months the filter is replaced. This practice eliminates scheduled coolant changes.

I agree that mixing coolants is a bad idea. I flushed the system twice before I switched to FLEET Charge.

Art,
It might be a commercial seated bus driven decision. If a belt fails a driver with a spare belt can replace one with no tools in a minute or two.
I only modified my system because there has not been a part of the belt tensioning system that has not required some form of maintenance or replacement over the years, including leaking bellows, leaking fittings, bad check valves, leaking valve, leaking pressure regulator, etc.
If my revised system works I have more effort required to change a belt, but except for belt changes, zero maintenance.

If you cannot find a date code (some, like mine, do not have them), put 00000 in the date code block and it will be accepted. My registration went without a hitch and I should receive my extinguishers in 10-20 days according to the site.
