  • Help No 110

Posted by Shelby & Barbara on July 15, 2017 at 12:00 pm

Wife overloaded circuit and now no 110. I was on shore power and it tripped the breaker. I re-set the breaker on the post. Now the inverter reads floating and I have one amber light on the pannel. I have tried it on gen and still the same. The inverter kicks off every few minutes.

Do you have an automatic transfer switch or do you manually select the power source?

What do you mean about the inverter cutting in and out every few minutes? If you have power into the coach it should function as a charger so what is the house battery voltage when the inverter is “on” versus when it kicks off.

Have you verified the shore power was restored after the breaker tripped?

I have an auto transfer sw. I get AC but when the lights on my inverter are all out, I get no power to my wall plugs. I go to the pannel and cycle the inverter and the wall sockets work.

You did not answer the question regarding if the inverter is functioning as a charger when it sees shore power. Do the battery voltages show it is charging before it kicks out?

Just tripping the shore power breakers should have had nothing to do with damaging the inverters, but it might have to do with the inverters being the ultimate cause of the problem.

This is not an easy diagnosis over a forum without developing information that may not first appear relevant. Remember the previous issues?

Jon, this is what my gauges look like.the amber light will go out an the wall reciptacals stop working. I push the Red Button till the inverter is on.

Are the inverters charging the batteries, and if so at what voltage. Typically if an inverter shuts down it is related to an over voltage situation. I am not familiar with the Trace so maybe someone with those inverters can jump in here.

When the inverters shut down is the coach on shore or generator power?

When the inverters shut down are all AC 120V circuits shut down or just specific ones that are on the inverters?

What is the voltage at the batteries at the point when the inverter shuts down and immediately after it shuts down?

If I am reading the DC voltage gauge correctly it appears to be a resting battery voltage and the inverter is not charging the batteries in bulk, absorb or float.

I am plugged in to shore power. When the inverter shuts down, the ACs still work but the 110 wall sircuit is dead.

What are the battery voltages prior to inverter shut down and immediately after? I don’t know how often the inverter shuts down but so far from what you said the outlets are one of your inverter circuits so your inverter moves to the top of the list for potential problems.

    Battery voltages please…….

A helpful hint. My Country Coach has a “ground fault” plug (has a trip/reset buttons on the plug) that is power is going through to power other plugs, in the kitchen as I recall. Unfortunately, the ground fault protector plug is located in the bedroom, along the bottom of the bed. If some of you AC plugs do not work, check this out.

This plug has tripped a couple of times.

The pic of the inverter shows no AC input Shore or Gen. It shows that the inverter is ON. It also shows that it is not charging batts (no yellow bulk or green float LED). After verifying shore power I would start by checking the transfer switch.

I agree with Doug… Your inverter panel is not showing AC AC one or two should be green if you have AC from Shore or Geny… At least that is how it works on my bus

Also do you have a main breaker in the bus bay ? That doesn’t often trip but it happens check that and ensure you have AC coming into the Inverters

    Just my two cents

Does that inverter shut down as a safety if it has a high voltage output to the batteries? If it does will it reset automatically or does it require a manual reset?

As long as there is shore power into the coach as is evidenced by the A/Cs working it means unless the power into the inverter has tripped a breaker that there is still power into the inverter. But if there remains power into the inverter, something internally is opening the circuit to shut down the invertrer and requires a reset.

That’s why I am curious about battery voltages and now I am curious as to the AC voltages on inverter circuits also trying to determine what is going on.

Thanks for all the help. I have an appointment with the shop tomorrow and will let you know what he finds.

This has got confusing.. There is nothing wrong with his photo’s, the Trace inverter is inverting and providing 120v from the batteries.

It is just that he says he is on shore power and the inverter pic does not reflect that he has shore or gen power to the inverter

LED was out on the Battery Charge button and I had turned it off by mistake. My mechanic said he was going to install a fake button (like Hillary’s) to push. I have a habit of pushing buttons Lol.
