Loose connections at the relay or circuit breaker could be amplified when on rough roads and stillhave a poor connection on normal roads.

Before you call CoachNet for a jump:
1. How old are your chassis batteries? If more than 4 or 5 or 6 years, one or more could be a problem.
2. Have you checked all the battery terminals to ensure they are tight and there is no corrosion?
3. Was anything left “on” since the last time the bus engine ran that could have drained the batteries?
4. If you have multi-meter, have you checked the batteries to see what the voltages are?
We had brand new Interstate chassis batteries installed in our new to us coach by Jeff Rowe in May of 2014. In October of 2014 I had a similar experience to yours. At Jeff’s direction tried to charge the batteries, still no start. Pull them all out, took them Interstate distributor, Interstate determined one of the batteries had a bad cell and replaced it under warranty.
If you have a bad battery, jumping the bus won’t solve the problem. I don’t know if a coach with bad batteries will start with a jump, if it will start if it will run at highway speed, and don’t know if it will keep running with a bad battery or leave you stranded on the highway.
Regardless, good luck and keep us posted. We’re all sitting here worried for you and wondering how this will turn out!

Great idea Mike. The fact you are tall creates the need, but regardless of our heights there are probably very few of us that has not turned around and slammed our heads into the awning arm or the slide.

Agree Tom.
Magnum’s setup manual has the numbers:
Deka absorption 29, float 27
Lifeline absorption 28.6, float 26.2 -

As a result of Kim’s and Peter’s episodes with what appears to be related to either the caliper slides or failing caliper adjusters I am adding to my list of stuff I will check every time I am under the coach.
We have long advocated the practice of draining the tanks in sequence to check for moisture and the operation of the check and protection valves. Now I am adding a check on the brake calipers/
I am suggesting that anytime a coach underside is accessible these things should be checked at a minimum. To at least get some idea of if a caliper is dragging a brake the parking brake has to be released. With the brake released there are a couple of benefits. If the parking brake air system has a leak you are going to know it. It is part of the pre-trip brake check, but by the time a coach is put up in the air and other things are done, some time will have elapsed, so if the parking brakes are still released you know for sure the parking brakes will meet the DOT leak standard.
The second benefit is it will “loosen” all the calipers. With no brakes applied or dragging I expect each caliper can be grabbed and shaken a little. Any movement is an indicator the caliper slides are loose and the caliper is not applying pressure against the pads. This is not likely required on drum brakes, but on those you can release the parking brake and have a helper press on the service brake. That is an opportunity to verify the travel on the brake chamber rod is within limits, and it allows you to see the brake shoes relax and move away from the drum slightly.

Any AC service company that services commercial equipment should be able to handle it if it is just recharging the refrigerant. If not a company that handles Carrier truck refrigeration.
If the issue is related to controls, Prevost only. Or a chartercompany with a Prevost fleet

Excellent post Bryan, and a second thanks to Big Al for his monthly posts that obviously are helping.

Mary and I join others in offering our condolences for your property loss. The good news is that “things” can be replaced, loved ones cannot. Pray you get a fair settlement and are back on the road soon.

Chip,
We full time it as well, except the couple months on the wife’s family farm in KS. If you’re really feeling brave, take the bus downtown on Constitution Ave. and cruise the “Mall”!
