Heard from the Superintendent of Teton School district. More info, we will have a ten dollar a day parking fee. We can have access to the school like restrooms and showers for additional cost. I don’t know how many others would need locker room facilities but they are available

Just a note
Remember, this is “dry camping” so be sure fresh water and fuel tanks are full, grey and black tanks empty. You can either run genset full time like we do, or go off inverters at night. Allergy sufferers like us will be running our Kohler solid, but our generator exhaust exit from roof, in case anyone wants to know like some Marathons and MillenniumsJIM & CHRIS 2000 Marathon XL 40, #0593 towing on tow dolly ’01 Merc SLK 230 6 sp, or four down a 7700 lbs 2011 GMC 2500HD DENALI . Sounds great. Will plan on it.
NOTE TO EVERYONE: The eclipse is next year, 2017. Driggs ID might be a great place this August but there won’t be an eclipse.

Here we are at our designated rally lot at the Teton High School, Driggs Idaho. We have room for about twenty busses in the student parking lot on the north side of the high school building. Remember, we will pay the school district $100 a day each bus for 4 nights starting August 18-21st. We leave the next morning of 22nd for parts unknown.
This is a dry camping situation, so arrive with full fresh water and fuel, and empty holding tanks grey and black
Our back drop will be The Grand Teton itself poking over the eastern horizon.
Tom, I’m sending you three photos to place here. Can’t find icon for photos on this iPhone.

Thanks, Truk for the photo upload look great
Teton High School is on the north side of town. Going north on ID Hwy 33 you’ll turn right onto Ross Ave, likewise heading south from Tetonia, you hit north edge of Driggs and turn left onto Ross Ave. Three blocks east there’s a right/left curve as street jogs. Several more blocks tho, take care going slow,THERE are several DIPS, not bad if your going less than 15 mph. High school is on left. First left turn will take on you on the west side of building to the “Student Parking lot”. That’s our site. It’s about 180ftX240feet We can have access to the building for restroom/showers, but we would need a “count” of people who would like locker room access and then I would find out the cost. So there you go. Can’t wait for 2 minutes and 18 seconds of the eeriest dusk lit illumination you’ll ever experience in the shadow of the Grand Teton!
-
Thanks for the scouting report and photos. Becky and I are ok without locker room access. It should be a great event and you have found us a beautiful spot to enjoy it all. -
I’d like to make that one. A little far off but will be fulltiming in about a month so should not conflict with anything I know of unless George and Corey are trying to do the Alaska thing.
I have been on the inside passage trip by sea but would love to go up in the coach if some others are available to travel with.
You guys going ?
-
We’d love to do the AK thing…just kinda waiting to see if it forms up. Be cool to do this also…comming or going.

Jim and Chris,
Count us in. We now have two small dogs, full grown will be between 5 and 8 pounds. Any issues with bringing the poaches? Yes, we always carry a supply of those small, thin plastic bags, that are necessary for doggie hygiene.
I think the rules for a solar eclipse are no looking at the eclipse directly or you will severely damage your eyes. Am I correct in this? I think you can look at a lunar eclipse without damage.
Thanks,
-
Ill put you on the list, We travel with two dogs as well.

A welding helmet is perfect for looking at the sun. They have cheap ones at Harbor Freight, Northern tool etc. I have a hand-held welding mask that is worthless for welding, but should be perfect for the eclipse. Never look directly into the sun, even when partially eclipsed.

Per,
Thanks for the confirmation. I seem to recall on a previous solar eclipse that using a sheet of paper with a pin hole “lens” will show the eclipse on a second sheet of paper.
