chances are good that your wiper arm assembly is worn out. The mounting hole on the aluminum composit arm becomes worn and elongated by the wiper motor stud. Although you may reposition the arm and retighten it, it will not take long for it to start to travel again. The worse case scenario and I can speak from experience, is in a driving rain storm with the wipers running full throttle the wiper travels past the outside of the windshield and basically gets “hooked” on the side of coach and then everything under the dash comes apart. So as a minimum I would completely change the whole wiper arm..just my 2 cents.

I’d also be interested in an easier way to remove the 3M, let us know what you find out.

Im in total agreement with Jon. I belive Hector is also doing the same thing and his bus does not leak at all.

Petar, It appears I have disabled the rear drop at 30 PSI function by simply changing the parking brake valve. That was not my plan when I replaced the leaking valve, but I noticed the new valve did not have the Bendix tape around it indicating “30 PSI” I found on the old one. Prevost Parts reps verified the part I ordered was correct for my seated coach, but I was surprised when the drop at 30 PSI went away. Now I’m wondering if I should simply be happy with the change since the new valve will allow me to dry camp longer before I must air up the coach. It may not be an issue if I’m successful in my current effort to stop leaks, but I’d be more comfortable if I knew for sure why the tag axle air is being dumped at that point instead of slowly going to zero with the rest of the system. Perhaps it’s a positive braking issue while parked? My coach doesn’t have the Level-Low system, but has the rear Low-Buoy.

    Diane,

There are numerous types of strip lighting and maybe the best way is to do an internet seach of all the various names your can think of. Some are flexible, some are rigid, some are LEDs, some are 120V some DC voltage with could be 12 or 24 volt, etc. Unless Featherlite, Vantare or Amadas can give you specifics you may just have to search around.

With the exception of one of the affected tires being 120, none of the others are applicable to sizes found on our coaches and I think most who do run Michelins are running XZA tires which were not affected.

If we look at the Allison fluid change recommendations for the 6 speed transmission they use a time interval and miles, whichever comes first. The time interval for Transynd is 4 years, and the mileage interval varies based on what Allison considers heavy duty or harsh service. With a retarder the interval in miles is 1/2 the miles for a transmission not equipped with a retarder. I asked Allison why and the reason stated was the higher temps created by the retarder.

Having already been aware that temperatures on oils at the high end are going to shorten the life I have established a conservative temperature limit. I still observe the time limit, bus I am sure my transmission fluid still retains all its properties. I use 230 mainly because that is a temperature mark on the transmission temperature gauge.

In reality the computers will limit transmission temps by disabling the retarder once temps reach 300, but I wanted to be conservative. I agree with Joel in that we probably are capable of substantial time limits is we are not seeing or smelling cooked fluids.

I have been thinking about insurance the past couple of weeks. I re-did our homeowners and cars and toys last year with American Family and saved a bunch over what Liberty Mutual had priced the renewal for. I had been with Liberty for over 10 years and never had a claim, but the rates kept going up.

Last years renewal went up a bunch so I started shopping. I was very surprised how much less I wound up paying. Then after I made the switch, I got a call from my old agent telling me how much less he could now get my coverage for. I told him that even if he was cheaper I was not going to shaft AmFam and switch back early. I think all insurance companies are suspect. My current agent said my credit rating and history were great and that it helped my rates.

My bus insurance has not changed in 3 cycles with Explorer, but it is about $4500 a year. I think this is the year that I have to change my guaranteed value for the policy, so I will have to do some checking on that before October. I am sure that the value has changed since we bought it.

    That bus is gorgeous!

Then again, I would expect nothing less… from either Liberty Coach or Jon…

Remove the old filter and fill the new one with the same kind of fluid you already have in the rest of the transmission, whatever that is.

In my case we have a 1994 XLV with a 5 speed Allison transmission, I believe it is a model 740. it has been running on 30W motor oil for most of its life. The forst owner said the shifts were smoother. Since it works fine, I just kept using it.

As a side note, I have experienced the same problem twice now, that is a leaking spin on transmission filter. The cause is this. Drive in winter on sanded and salted roads ( like Utah in my case) and the tires kick up sand particles which hit the side of the tranny filter, this nicks the paint and corrosion starts. leave the coach parked a few months, come back and you have pinhole leaks in the filter. I believe it runs at 150 psi or so.

My solution is to change the filter after driving in salty conditions. On a truck, the parts are more protected it seems.

I keep detailed records when I pump, but I also log the same data in a book I have carried since I put the first mile on our first bus. I get a bill from Pilot every month (same card works for auto gas) and they have never disagreed with my records. I won’t waste the time going inside to the fuel desk.

Pueblo El Mirage is a good place to stay. It is a resort on a golf course and they have a few pull throughs.
