XL-45 Windshield Wiper Problem
My wipers have begun to “travel” too far, and are moving beyond the windshield and gasket. Once this happens, they have to be manually pushed back. Of course this is dangerous, as stopping is not always possible. There is no service facility close by. Any thoughts on what I can do to fix this?

Chuck, this is the street side wiper mount on my coach, if yours looks similar here is what I would do in your situation. Both sides are similar.
First check that all fastening components are in place, that is nuts and bolts.
The main mount and driving force is the large splined shaft coming out the front wall. I think you may have a loose or missing cross bolt holding the arm to the shaft. That would be the first fastener you see on the left.
Second push the wiper arm to what you think is the proper position pushing it onto the shaft towards the wall and install the cross bolt and tighten.
Third check the tightness of the other fasteners.

chances are good that your wiper arm assembly is worn out. The mounting hole on the aluminum composit arm becomes worn and elongated by the wiper motor stud. Although you may reposition the arm and retighten it, it will not take long for it to start to travel again. The worse case scenario and I can speak from experience, is in a driving rain storm with the wipers running full throttle the wiper travels past the outside of the windshield and basically gets “hooked” on the side of coach and then everything under the dash comes apart. So as a minimum I would completely change the whole wiper arm..just my 2 cents. -
That’s what happened to me last week and thank goodness for Rain-Ex. I need to replace mine. I have a 2001 XLII. can this be done from the outside ?

Mine is a different style, but drove thru a thunderstorm in Oklahoma in May and the wind blew my passenger arm too far and it wouldn’t come back to center. It actually stripped the splines off of the wiper itself. I was able to retighten the nut enough to get it to work again. It’s a fine line, on mine, between too tight to work and too loose to work. Will replace both sides when I get back home. They’re 24 yrs old! They’ve held up a long time, Could use new ones.
