  • Replace air “push” fittings?

Posted by Ron on April 21, 2012 at 10:06 pm

The DOT fittings that require only that air lines be pushed into them seem to have been designed primarily as a time saving device for manufacturers. The down side appears to be a tendency to leak after a while. Rather than simply cutting off an inch of the air line and re-inserting it, do savvy owners routinely replace the original fittings with compression fittings for a long term fix? Am I missing any important advantages that would justify keeping them?

I trash them as soon as they leak. Once a compression fitting is tight I almost never have an issue with leaking. Cannot say the same with push on.
