From my perspective a low mileage bus throws up warning flags for two reasons.

The first is that our coaches are built on a chassis that was designed to be run daily and that frequent exercise seems to minimize some issues. Our suspensions rely on a lot of Norgren valves and if you combine inactivity with even the slightest amount of moisture in the air system the valves have the potential to stick or leak. That is one example of mechanical issues that might be caused by lack of use. Some rubber compounds are designed so flexing or exercizing the item releases chemicals that resist aging. We all know tires age far better when driven regularly than those that do not get that constant flexing. I don’t know if that applies to other things like air bags but I would try to be aware of the potential for items such as air bags, suspension bushings and the like to deteriorate.

My other concern about a coach that has a lack of use is the maintenance program. Will an owner who perhaps only puts 4000 miles a year on a coach be inclined to change coolant in two years or transmission fluid in four years when the cost of such service is very expensive when you consider it in terms of dollars per mile? If the owner isn’t driving the bus often he isn’t going to be thinking of service for it either.

I think a coach used routinely and maintained to the recommended schedule would make me feel more comfortable than a low mileage coach, especially if it was accumulating those miles when it was new, and then ended up being a garage queen in later years. I think most low mileage coaches sit for very long periods prior to being sold rather than being driven a constant but low mileage over the life of the coach.

    Les,

I’m not familiar with your coach setup, but I would guess your alternator is putting out around 13.8 volts. That won’t charge a bank of AGM batteries to 100%, they need at least 14.4 to get the job done. It will maintain the batteries while driving though.

Don’t worry Joanne, Jon and I are still friends even though he owns a Liberty and hates CC.

By the way Liberty gave him that coach for all the advertising he does for them, didn’t cost a penny !!!!!!!!!

I don’t know why our dues are so high if he drives a free coach.

It is a really different perspective being a passenger in one.

Have never been in mine that I wasn’t driving.

Glad to hear of the progress for Phil and that you got your other family member back home.

It was a pleassure helping out.

Have a good Thanksgiving and count the blessings you and your family have received.

    P. S. What are ya’ll paying for dues ????

Four or five years ago we drove Rte. 95 from I-84 up to and through the Canadian border in our old 35-foot GM-4104 pulling a Tundra pickup truck, on our way to Lake Louise in Banff. Had no problems, though we didn’t climb Whitebird as well as we could now with the Prevost. Friends with 40-ft MCI’s also drove that route without problems. It is one of the prettiest routes we’ve been on.

Tried that, still have nothing but the Marathon logo displaying on Techlink. Suspect techlink CPU gave up the ghost. Thanks for the sequence. Luckily, still in Eugene.

Man i feel your pain and this is why I posted the old and new thread. Thinking about upgrading to a newer coach and wonder if anybody is building my old style coach. KISS method. Mine only has 86,000 miles on it, running the old 8V 2 stroke, witha 755CR trans, but what the heah, run it till it pukes and let somebody use it as a hunting blind. We all buy these knowng they are expensive. The deal is with mine, I bought way cheap and knew the one owner, Old Fella that passed and can afford to fix anything that breaks..Good luck on your fixes.

Take on off and take to an auto parts store. They should have one that will work.

Keep in mind that one of the requirements for an agreed value policy might be an appraisal. There is an article in the articles section of this site regarding appraisals.

It is your proof of value so its importance cannot be overstated.

Our coaches regardless of age are going to cost about the same to repair in the event of damage. Just because a coach is older and proportionately less in value does not mean repair costs are also less in value. The significance of that is if you are under insuring on an agreed value policy, or willing to accept what the insurance company determines is the coach value it may not take more than a slight fender bender for the insurance company to write you a check for the value of the coach. Then they own it, not you.

Had ours replaced by Prevost while in Quebec last fall. Agree with what Jon said (and also Prevost). Unfortunately you will have some ghosting on the stainless. Prevost recommended not trying to completely remove. We just placed new fuel decals in original location and everything looks good. Can’t see any of the ghosting.
