Here is my personal experience with slides. When we stay in one spot for a while, several days or more, the slides open up the coach and make it easier for us to move around inside. Compared to our two previous non-slide coaches that is the nice part about slides.

The trade off however is huge. Our 45 foot Liberty XL had substantial amounts of storage space. When we went to transfer all we carried in that coach to our 45 foot coach with 2 slides there was no way we could put it all back in. Not even close. Each slide takes up several inches per side for trim that covers the mechanisms and when we add up all those inches we end up with the loss of space for a closet, or a stacked washer and dryer or maybe a pantry. That may not seem line a big deal but when space is limited it has to come from somewhere and in our case it was from upstairs closet and storage space.

In the bays the loss of space is worse. The slides have a structure that intrudes from the top of the bay opening and I lost the ability to carry our two bikes and two lawn chairs. Also the structure affects access for service so we lost space plus found it harder to get at stuff we need to service. Just the simple act of replacing the coolant in the generator radiator became a pain.

But wait, there is more……..Slides add weight. Slides add complexity. Slides have very expensive seals.

My point is if you don’t feel you need the larger space inside that you get from slides you do have advantages. In our case we like the extra space and are willing to compromise. But we do not full time.

Jeff, If no luck getting a good used one, try IBP in Apopka, FL. If you go that route tell Steve he needs to advertise here or we want a commission.

Just pulling my 17 year old raritan out and replacing ‘just because’ while doing other work in that bay. If you’re having problems with the Liberty setup, it’s likely something simple…my experience has been excellent.

The bearings for the tension roller are good. They rotate smooth and no signs of friction on the back side of the belt that rolls over the roller. The bushings in the arm itself feel fine after tightening. It only moves about 1/2 inch at the pivot.

I hope this is the issue.

Yes that is the aux air tank. Liberty may have relocated the drain valve to the left front compartment (Under the driver). You might have to call Liberty and ask. On the whistle, do you have a general area where it is located. The drivers mirrow can cause this depending on how it is angled.

I’am going crazy reading how some NAPA stores treat customers. NAPA card was put together to encourage heavy duty truck owners to shop NAPA.

When I approached NAPA at Atlanta headquarters on a conference call I remember there was total agreement PC members owned heavy duty buses. NAPA poured a lot of money into this program, with that store owners are supported on each store reported on end of month computer reporting back to NAPA headquarters. Some store owners opposed the program as they fail to meet min requirements to have percentage support. I know the numbers min $ requirements are pretty low.

Some independent store owners oppose this program because discounts are large on certain lines.

Thanks, everyone for putting up with uninformed NAPA employees about use of your NAPA card. The NAPA card is a national program …..Some store employees never get it and should not be working at an auto parts store.

Carry the NAPA , hand it to the counter person the instructions are clear.

I had the pleasure of meeting Larry and Maxine because I wore my George approved TP pocket square. For some reason no other PC member wore one, so I was the only PC member that got to meet two really nice individuals who are going to be a great addition to the PC group.

Wish we could have attended the Claw Fest. We’re shooting for Foley, AL, in April.

Just a note. The bay doors that swing up do not hug the coach on the new ones. They swing out at the top sticking out almost as much as a slide. I’m not kidding, the top of the bay door sticks out at least 18-20″ (haven’t measured but close).

The reason I noticed is that in my storage garage, I have to swing to the right when pulling in so that I can open the bay door for the electric plug. I found out if I don’t swing right, the top of the bay door could hit the wall. I wonder why they were changed to not hug the side?
