Very impressive, but over how many miles and at what speeds?
I have no idea what Prevosts agerage over time for fuel mileage, but I highly doubt it is 10…lol
My guess is over time, and speeds set about 68-70 mph you guys are getting in the high 5’s low 6’s to maybe mid 6’s. But that is a guess as I don’t own one. I only base that over my 500 Cummins in my fiberglass 45′ coach and I avg about 5.4 hand calculated over many thusand miles towing about 6K lbs and cruise set at 68mph. -
As the Pro Driver shows it was over 1k miles with the cruise set at 64 mph. This was from Flagstaff, Az to Joplin,Mo. I usually get between 8.5 to 9.5 mph.

That is not a surprising number, but it also is not to be expected all the time.
That particular run is downhill, and the trip was most likely with the wind from the rear. But it does serve to illustrate careful driving and the right conditions will produce some very pleasing mileage numbers on mid to late 90’s coaches.
The key factors for best mileage are speed (which is also related to the force and direction of winds), terrain (up and down hills kills mileage), the toad especially heavy ones, and the weight of the coach. A minor factor is the use of the OTR. Real mileage numbers are only going to emerge after a year or two because that value shown is less than a tank of fuel and that is just a snapshot.

In all seriousness my mileage is more in line with Brett’s expectations, 6.5 to 7.5 pulling a 3/4 ton pickup @ 68mph

Dan, that is still pretty good. I started hand calculating and recording every drop of fuel in my Eagle when we started full timing early last year and my yearly average was 5.32. So far this year my average is 5.34. I usually run with cruise set on 68 if on the interstate and I always pull a Ford F150 with a GL1800 in the bed. Coach weight is 46380 and truck/bike is just over 6K. I would LOVE 6.5-7.5….lol

Your question made me curious, so I calculated the mileage we got on our coach since we purchased it. Our average fuel use calculated over 20,500 miles is 6.8 MPG. However, this includes generator and Webasto use; we use the generator a lot in summertime, so actual fuel mileage is closer to 7 MPG. We weigh about 50,700 pounds and cruise at 68 MPH when conditions allow. Riveted coaches are probably 4-5000 pounds less, and XLs are not as tall as H3s, so you would expect better mileage on those. Weight has a big impact. Our friends with a Featherlite with one slide and weighing 5000 pounds more than us, get about 0.4 MPG less than us on the same roads. Also the dash display consistently indicates about 0.5 MPG less than actual mileage.

Per, 6.8 is mighty good over that distance. Mine is also calculated running the Gen and the hydrohot. We always run the gen in summer while driving to keep the AC’s on. I estimate it to pull maybe .5 gal per hour and I think the hydrohot is about .5 per run hour.
i know we sat still for and ran the gen for 48 straight hours and our mileage for that tank was 3.9, so sitting still is not cheap either…lol
I have talked to enough Prevost owners to get a good feeling that you guys get considerably better mileage than I do.
I have also talked to several fiberglass coach owners that have the 600 cummins and they are getting mid to high 6’s and even low 7’s.
And I have talked to the guys running the 650’s and they are in the mid to high 4’s. So for the big fiberglass rigs it appears that 600HP is the sweet spot for economy which is a bit surprising, but not much.
What I will say is I have dropped speed to 64 and run most of a day and got 5.8, I have set speed at 70 for most of a day and got 5.4. Speed doesn’t affect me too much unless over 70, but wind is much bigger factor. Although 68 with no wind is about 5.5, 68 with a head wind is about 5.3…I NEVER get a tail wind..lol
I drove all day yesterday with cruise set at 64 in a sustained 40-45 MPH dead cross wind with gusts to 60 and got 5.4.

Just over 35,000 miles, we seemed to be getting a consistent 6.8. We are at 55,000 lbs. and tow a 3,400 lb. toad, driving about 60 mph.
Once, with a strong tail-wind going east on the I-40 over two days (700+ miles), we reach 9.5 mpg avg. on that segment.
I write down every fill-up with mileage and put it in a folder. I will one day sit down and figure out our running average over 2 yrs. and 3 months.

At every rally I siphon fuel from Tom’s bus. I don’t record the amount I siphon, but I do know it appears to increase my mileage while reducing cost of operation.

8 mpg give or take a little, 41k Lbs @ 64mph. With with the race car enclosed trailer behind us knockoff .5 mpg.

IThis is the trip from home to California and back. The avg. speed on the pro driver was
61 mph. As Jon said the 10 mpg was with a tail wind. The trip to was with a slight head wind and my avg. was only 8.

25,959 miles using 4,040 gallons of fuel makes mine 6.4 towing most of the time and no idea on Webasto and gen fuel use, so I’m probably closer to high 6’s. Even with Jon siphoning my fuel, not bad for the bus size and weight.

Anyone else out there getting good mileage that won’t mind if I siphon fuel?

Not me. My egr and dpf wonder only gets about 5 to maybe 5.5 on a very good day.
