Ron just bought a pair of (Sunex 1522-22 ton jack stands) off Amazon. $148 bucks shipped. These are welded not cast. Think there $351.84 off Sunex’s site.

We lived in New Orleans for 15 years and Gulf Shores/Orange Beach was our go to place on a regular basis. We owned a condo in Orange Beach until it got wiped out by Hurricane Ivan in 2004. Up until last year, that part of the Gulf Coast was still one of our stops on a regular basis, first in a condo and then with our coach.

Then Diane Byrd turned the PC on to Camp Gulf in Destin. Right on the beach. As much as we love Orange Beach, we’re spoiled by not being directly on the beach. Destin’s Camp Gulf is our new go to place, right on the beach. Not cheap when you’re on the front row on the beach, but it’s something special…at least for us. Then we follow up immediately with a 4 hour trip to the French Quarter Resort and pig out for a week. And wash the salt off the coach.

Netflix, Amazon or others, will use up a lot of bandwidth and use-up your monthly allotment in no time.

Personally, unless, it is just not available, I do watch HD only. The difference between SD and HD is incredible and I am willing to pay more for it.

With 5GB of data, you could possibly, maybe, stream 2 HD movies, or 3-4 in SD! So right there, it is a problem.

Even with the 20GB allotment from Millenicom, I have now gone over the limit 3 months in a row. The first 2 times I was just a couple of days away from month end but the last time, it was a full week. That hurt.

With satellite TV, you have an alternative source of TV and it includes “all you can watch” for a flat monthly fee. Of course, this does not include pay per view, which is extra.

I made a cost comparison. My costs for having a) 20GB of data and b) “unlimited” SAT TV, comes to about $1600 per month. For the most part, that is good enough for me.

Again, I would caution you about streaming movies. While the movie may be free (Amazon Prime) or included in your monthly fee (Netflix), you pay dearly for streaming the data.

    Cheers,

    Ronald

I am using my T mobile phone to tehther right now…5 gb a month which I do not usually use but want to hook up a Raspberry Pi and stream contect so maybe some ofthese other options would work better….besides I usually get 4G in a lot of big areas but Edge in most other places right now which sucks…

Original owner had Marathon install like 5 or 6 mobile phone attenaes when the coach was built, not sure where most of them connect to now, but can they be used to boost a signal if I get a standalone 4G device like some of you guys are using?

I don’t do satelite TV (actually want to pull dome off coach) and really want to stream netflix or stuff on the Pi and via Amazon.

Looks like someone’s ‘dream’ coach may turn into a nightmare? Assuming of course that it was a real buyer paying the supposed $ amount on TV. Are you out there somewhere Mr. ’09 Parliament buyer?

    Gerard,

There is no answer to your questions because every situation is different.

Try to understand that sellers of coaches are literally swimming in BS from prospective buyers who are kicking tires. As a private seller if I could bag all that crap potential buyers have fed me I would have prize winning tomatoes next year. I suspect dealers, converters and brokers get a whole lot more so here is my spin on how you as a buyer are seen as more than a tire kicker.

First, be honest. If you like the photos, and the seller and you have addressed any questions or concerns you have, show your seriousness by setting a time to see the coach for a personal inspection. Be prepared if you like it to put down ernest money. Just don’t expect a seller to hold a coach if you outline a lot of contingiencies such as getting financing, selling your coach, etc. If you want the coach limit the contingencies to very specific issues such as a Prevost inspection, especially regarding the delam issue.

A seller is likely to welcome that inspection because it will validate the coach being sold is trouble free.

Typically a seller who knows the coach has confidence in it so if you want to take a couple of days to inspect it that should pose no problem especially if you and the seller have an understanding as to who is responsible for repairs.

Recognize there are three ways to buy a coach. If you buy it from the converter and they say they will inspect it and fix anything it needs and back it up with a short warranty period you are done. The burden falls on the converter to make it right and all you have to do is train in it and live in it for a day or three to verify it.

If you buy from a dealer, you negotiate who is responsible. Several dealers are highly respected and they do a great job of inspecting the coach and making it right before delivery. All you have to do is learn the coach and as long as they are willing to fix stuff you are OK.

But a private sale, regardless of what you are told is a whole different animal. You have the burden to know what you are buying and an honest seller will work with you to help you verify the coach is as represented. Who pays to get it to Prevost and how you can set up inspection and training is part of what you negotiate. We are talking serious money for the average coach so as a buyer you should expect help in verifying that the coach is as represented and if the seller resists, chances are pretty good he knows more than he is saying and you should move on.

A seasoned owner can tell in a very short period of time how the big things stand up. A check of tire and battey date codes, a check of AC supply and return temps and a visual inspection are all that is needed to identify the big things. A test drive following that check will reveal if all the gauges are normal or if there are any codes. After that you are looking at the details.

Get informed by meeting coach owners near you and by looking at as many coaches as possible. You will be amazed at how quick you can get a very accurate opinion of a coach.

Our Web Guru has proposed a solution and he is working on a way that he describes as when you look at details on a specific coach it will open in a new window so when you go back to the window you were in previously you will right where you were.

At least I think that is what he said.

Try starting from the rear on manual and see if it continues to run. Just a thought…
