My coach was built for 4 8D sized house batteries. The racks are specifically for that size.

I replaced the AGM 8D batteries with 4 LiFePo4 batteries of 8D size and the only change was to change the series/parallel cable set up to an all 24V bank, with Victron converters to provide the 12V needs because the Li battery management systems did not like charging via equalizers.

Hey Dan, be curious to know how the repair went and any other information about the root cause. Did Prevost do the repair?

Feel free to PM me if it’s a lengthly story.

Down by the engine block near the chassis batteries is a fuel shut off. Access is via the side door.

One thing everyone should understand is even new breakers are not going to provide reliable power at greater than 80% of their rated capacity with any degree of reliability. Add to that loose connections, and then add the huge inrush of current when an A/C cycles on and it is a wonder they hold up as long as they do, especially when some people who use them turn them on and off under load.

    Jon:

What is your procedure to put the coach to sleep?

How long are you comfortable leaving it in sleep?

Y’all were wise to suggest I do some more diagnosis and get clear on the real issue. I am not finding a thermostat issue. The unit fires up and heats to close to 190 (measured using laser thermometer on the side of tank near the thermostat) and then shuts down just fine. During the heat up and after I turned on all three thermostats in the coach and turned the temperature to full high. Two of the three blow inside and also show temperatures of about 150 or so on the coolant circulating lines (measured on the outside of the pipes). The one other line does not heat up and does not blow in the exchanger in the coach. I’m not sure but it might be that that line has always had problems. Given that it neither circulates (pump not running?) nor blows air (fan not running), is it likely a fuse or relay or something else? Heck it could even be an interior theromostat issue. Off to do some more checking!

Buddy beat me to it. Seems like Prevost owners are doomed to repeat the mistakes of the past.

Way back when DDEC engines were first used in our conversions it was learned the engine HP could easily be turned up. So since some owners couldn’t stand not having as much HP as the next guy there was a rush on getting Detroit dealers to increase the HP.

Then slowly the word trickled out that for short bursts the added HP was a neat thing, but it was pretty much useless on long steep hills in high temp ambient conditions. When the added HP was used to climb long hills the cooling system couldn’t handle it and the engine was derated by DDEC to cool things down.

That was when Prevost owners started to try to deal with the lack of cooling system capacity using misters and some magic additives to make coolant more efficiently. Unless the cooling system is modified to handle the heat of 25 or 30% more HP the extra HP cannot be fully used.

Yep, no politics boys, stick to security. As an ex police officer and military, beware of your surroundings, avoid potential hot spots if possible, but if all else fails and you feel your life is in danger, lock and load. Remember one thing though, you can’t use deadly force over property, only fear for your or another life.

Very diplomatic from the Leader A1.

We use to have a lot of fun on here with the banter between converter owners.

Me on the other hand I wouldn’t own a Liberty if it was the last company left. All for reasons not mentioned above.

I’ll give you 3 things you might want to consider in that era coach. Liberty does not have a jump start for the chassis batteries, aux air is not isolated and no backup water pump. That’s just a tid bit. But folks still buy em and that is fine but the biggest thing the Marathon doesn’t have is the most important feature on a Liberty.

The oversize entrance door to get their ego in.

There may not be a correct answer. However you quickly will learn to visually identify sizes and by looking at a fitting you can easily recognize tube and pipe size. So far the most common on my coaches have been 3/8, 1/4, and 1/8 pipe going to 3/8 and 1/4 tube. But I also have other sizes.

Most common are straight, next is 90 degree, but I also have some 45 degree. The 45 degree Swagelok can and will get, but might take time Those were on Norgrens.
