Right next to the Pacific
For those who want the “near waters edge” experience Rincon Parkway in Southern California is great. It is dry “camping” actually just a parking spot (only 46′ long by the way, so the toad goes on the side of the coach) along the Pacific Coast highway. Stayed there two nights last week and the sound of the surf and view can’t be beat. Saw dolphins in the surf both mornings. First come first serve but did not seem too busy during this off season.
There are also two county campgrounds with hookups just a few miles in either direction – Faria Beach and Hobson.

Do you have to make reservations? What town is it in? I would love to go there . Was it busy

It is west of Ventura, before Santa Barbara. No reservations taken, first come first serve. We were there on Monday and Tuesday nights last week. Over half the 100+ parking spots were empty and there were some hook up spots in the adjacent county parks. Also is a state park a couple miles south that had lots of open spots.
This website shows how many open spots are available at any given time at Rincon and the two parks north and south of it that have hookups.

In the summer they are parked bumper to bumper there with campers waiting for anyone to pull out. An enterprising local delivers water and pump outs.

This area has been our “beach house” since we got our first bus over 10 years ago. It’s so easy to head up for the weekend from LA. Unfortunately, the “Thomas” fire burned through this entire area yesterday and today on both sides of U.S. 101 along the coast. The ocean views will still be lovely, but the trees and shrubs between the highway and the beach are probably all gone and the hillsides will need some time to recover. Very sad.

We try to make stuff visible and available to everybody, but our web guru either cannot or will not allow us to use flashing neon signs so we have to hope our members look at the site.

This has to be, by far, my very favorite “campground”. We were able to get to that area last year in the middle of Summer when it was a million degrees everywhere else and it was something like 70 on the edge of the Pacific! I called my sister who is a new RV owner, lives 25 miles away and had never heard of this place. Finding a space can be tricky due to no reservations. When someone pulls out, if you can’t pull right in you lose. I heard they were going to change to a reservation system due to the high number of fights that break out when person 1 says it’s mine and person 2 says it’s not. It’s $25/night to dry camp but it’s a million dollar site if you can get one. This is actually the #1 reason that we are looking to buy a new 40 ft. coach. Trying to get a 45 and a towed into a space is nearly impossible as you have to find a space and then that space has to have a small RV in front of or behind your site.
