When the courtesy flash is initiated by pressing the button on the end of the turn signal stalk THE HEADLIGHTS ARE NOT FLASHED.

Using the button only cycles the parking and clearance lights on and off and only if they are turned on. They are used to acknowledge your appreciation when a vehicle you have passed signals it is OK to pull back into your lane but if your lights are not on the courtesy button does nothing.

I am somewhat surprised that no one mentioned Phil Cooper to Bookman, he has Prevo’s from 2007 all the way down to 1979 and just about every manufactuer in the country represented on his site.

I haven’t had internet the last few weeks but I have been reading on my phone and keeping up with everything. I have an update on my cooling situation.

It was so cool the day I left Florence, Montana that I did not bother to lock the fan clutch manually or electronically. I made it over the passes and through all of the mountains without any problem at all. I did keep the RPMs up near 2000 as recommended.

Once I was in the flatland and getting close to Wichita the daytime temps outside were way up but I drove in the early morning and again, no problems.

I left Wichita and drove overnight to St. Louis. The next day it was near 90 so I decided to take the 85 tab off of the relay and check the fan clutch. It would not turn at all with the key on but not started so that was a good sign according to Prevost on another thread.

My temps stayed between 180ish and 195 with the outside temp of 90 and pulling the 15,000lbs. Of course there were no hills to climb going across Illinois and Indiana.

For the 120 mile drive today from Indiana to Ohio I took the doctored relay out and put in a new one. My temps were 195-200ish. (My guage is numbered at 170, 195 & 220) That has been the normal for me since I bought the bus in 2008 although the outside temps were about 70-75 today.

What do you think? Do I have a problem that needs to be checked out further? Or were the slightly warmer temps on my way west in the mountains a result of the altitude, the heavy load and the high ambient temps?

If you want an answer from someone who has installed many and knows the bus structure well give Doug a call at Excalibur Coach in Sanford Fl. He will answer all your questions and do the work is you so decide.

I do not know about the Dakota specifically, but my Ram 1500 also required the key in to keep the steering wheel unlocked. I never had battery issues when towing, but when I installed the Brakemaster I added a battery cut off switch because the Brakemaster worked by applying pressure to the brake pedal. I wasn’t sure if the bus lighting connection would supply power to the brake lights, or if the power would come from the Ram’s battery so I just added the battery cut off.

Prior to that I turned off the radio, the heater and AC fan, and anything else that might draw power. I am not sure I needed to because I never had a battery issue.

Do you have a brake system? If so is it possible that is activating the Dakota’s brake lights and pulling battery power? With the key in the unlock position does the radio and heater fan shut off? Is it possible anything remains on such as interior lights?

    Scott,

He is here in Lufkin, (East Texas) he is actually a German diesel mechanic and happens to know a lot about air conditioning.

He replaced both of the compressors with the exact same type & size compressor. ..we bought them online for around $300+ each can’t remember exactly. We also replaced a compressor in our aft cruisair unit we got that compressor at a marine wholesale place I think around $500 (this one was rebuilt by cruisair they don’t make that unit anymore). All our wiring was replaced and you can have your circuit board (for the RVAC) rebuilt in Dallas. There is a place called AAP . http://www.aap.com Jeff is a wizard if you ask for him..there’s another guy too, they are both great guys. They sell it all and are always available to talk to you.

We spent around $5K with our guy but got a long list of stuff done as well. He also repaired our aquahot. He is like Jon in a lot of ways..knows a lot about a lot of things and is very particular about the way things should be..we think he’s really sharp.

Almost forgot to mention a friend of ours took his 2002 H3-45 Vantare to Buddy Gregg in Denton (Dallas) 3 years ago and had the same thing we had done and his bill was $14K..he had a Good Sam Warranty that paid $12K of it.. I would never be so lucky !!! Also they kept it for 2 months.

    Scott,

Even though you’re off site, we’ll all hook up somehow at Indy.

Thanks for the great info. Let me clarify a little.

We have 2 Cruise Air units and a 27,000 BTU RVAC unit.

I have a problem with the RVAC. The temperature differential is about 10 degrees. (65 degree supply and 75 degree return.)

The RVAC has two compressors. The electricity distribution panel shows amps usage. The side with the primary RVAC and 1 Cruise Air is drawing 14 amps. The other side with the secondary RVAC and the other Cruise Air is drawing 44 amps total.

This leads me to believe the primary compressor is not running. I will find an A/C person tomorrow and see what they can find.

Thanks for the help. I will post an update when I figure out what’s wrong.

I realize the RVAC is old and obsolete. Are there good replacement units available?

You are not putting in any kind of splash guard on that. You might want to coat your replacement with something like this………….
