Good topic for the care and feeding seminar at Jeff’s in a few weeks. Jeff should have a bunch of those relays on hand, I suspect a number of us are going to want to buy one and break the 85 tabs off.

    Now now guys…

You’re giving the Liberty folks hell about the filters? …just thought I should tell you Marathon gurus that all my Liberty filters have easy access.. the one behind the refrigerator accesses very easily by pulling out my laundry hamper!! done from start to finish in 5 minutes.

I will mention that our Vantare had the worst possible access to all the filters had the take a cabinet totally apart..remove shelves etc… half day job to do the whole bus !! Insane thinking the way it was laid out !

I was excited when I saw how well planned out the Liberty filters were… However Liberty has lots of very hard to get to stuff too… just not the filters !!

    Cheers, Diane

Your retarder transmission fluid outlet goes into the coolant / Transynd heat exchanger and I believe your DDEC and ATEC are monitoring temperatures.

No matter how much you abuse the use of the retarder the system(s) are going to limit the temp of fluid to 300 degrees. At that point the system will just prevent the retarder from functioning until temps can be held below that limit.

Having said that if you need to use the retarder to such a degree you are running temperatures so excessive you feel the need to re-engineer your coach and install a different thermostat you might want to consider that there are ways as a driver you can use your driving habits alone to effectively limit temps.

I arbitrarily chose to use 230 as an upper limit for my transmission fluid temps. I would anticipate steep downgrades, slow down, gear down and establish a target speed that I controlled using a combination of transmission gear, retarder selector position which I moved up or down to maintain speed, and braking when the speed I selected was going to be exceeded. Driving on the steep grades out west I found it was easy to negotiate an 8% grade for example by gearing down into 4th, considering 55 my upper limit and the 2nd or 3rd positions on the selector were adequate. If the speed did start to creep up past my limit a hard stab on the brakes to get me below 50 kept my speeds down and easily under my 230 degree limit.

I picked that number because that was a marking on the gauge so it was easy to read and my plane had an oil temp limit of 250 so I assumed my conservative limit would extend the life of the Transynd. I still changed it every 4 years however. With my limit I never saw the engine temps affected by the retarder and with the retarder off, letting off the gas pedal brought engine and transmission temps down quickly.

Even if the selector was in the zero position I always left the retarder master switch on and if I had to apply hard braking I never looked at the gauge because stopping to me was far more important than fluid temps.

Will is taking blame for something not his fault.

I won’t say it is impossible, but it approaches impossible when we attempt to learn the coach when being trained by the owner or dealer. To use Will’s example of the aux air compressor, I would dare say few if any of us when buying our first Prevost would know there was such a thing, or even think about one. Fewer still would understand why we might have one and even fewer would know things about check valves and the limitations of the system.

That is why a new owner or potential buyer should ask questions. What the person asking the questions does not realize is on a forum like this the number of people willing to post and ask questions is but a small fraction of the total membership. So asking a question likely helps those thinking the same thing, but did not post the question. The question also helps those who are long time owners because far too often even more experienced owners will not realize something about their coach until they read it on this forum. The best recent example is how many Marathon owners actually knew their aux air system for the house could be isolated from the chassis accessory air or even why and how it is done?

Ken has installed a 14 liter engine in his coach along with a 10 speed transmission so he not only is able to extract some impressive mileage, I would not want to try to drag race him.

FWIW John Klopp had a 97 Royal with a 12.7L engine, unmodified, with the 6 speed Allison and he was able to get 9 MPG with careful driving. I believe he limited his speed to 65 and he did not tow.

Part of the reason for good mileage is Ken and John’s coaches are relatively light compared to the later model 45 foot coaches.

I’ll be heading to nashville on my way north, staying at the KOA on music valley. If anyone is interested in discussing my coach before we head to Panterra get ahold of me. The plan is to pick up the 2015 Dynamax DQ320XL on the way home, transfer the contents, that should be fun, and begin a new journey in RV’ing.

Sounds like a good plan to me. Enjoy your new cottage and don’t be a stranger. We need the dues money.

When upgrading to HD, don’t rip out your old Coax cable. Another way to get HDMI (high def) to the front of the bus is to use an HDMI over Coax adapter. That lets you reuse the existing coax cable to the front of the bus. The adapter also works as a multiplexer so you can send output of different devices to the front. E.g. someone can watch TV in the back while someone else watches a DVD movie in front or vice versa.

The stories would lead one to believe at this point the building wasn’t damaged.

I’m very interested in finding out what caused the fire.

Jeff, I did a search on the Norgren site for that number as well as the number I took from a solenoid operated valve on my coach (K41EA00KV1KS6W2) and they both failed to turn up in a search of the Norgren web site.

Hey Larry, I just called the number I have and it took some time to convience who I was talking to that they indeed offered the service. After being on hold for a while they got back on line and said they would send me a form.

I must be incorrect about your home local feeds being available instead you get East or West cost as all the post I am reading.

    Good Luck
