Bernie is a grumpy old man and he has always said exactly what was on his mind. But he has also shared valuable information based on his long term experience and to me that makes him a valuable member.
Bitching is good. I suppose we all want to candy coat the complaints, but who cares how they are delivered? He did not abuse the site by talking politics or any of the other forbidden topics. He expressed an opinion and if that leads to some improvements that is good. If nothing changes despite the criticism the ball is in Bernie’s court. He is not hurting the site with his post, and if I remember we (Tom and I) sometimes were on the receiving end of his posts.

I do not think the concept of using the bus OTR for driving and when parked is a bad idea.
However there are several issues that have to be addressed. The first is the evaporator has to be sized to handle the size of the compressor. I see no reason the condenser side has to be modified. Obviously the controls need to be sized for the new system capacity.
The thinking about the motor driving the compressor has to be reversed. Stick with a single compressor, but instead of engine driven have it driven by the alternator or shore power providing the electric. The existing OTR compressor I believe can pull almost 30 HP so a decision has to be made about how much HP an electric motor driven compressor can be, knowing the likely limit is the 50 amp shore power which is also going to power everything else on the coach, including the condenser and evaporator fans.
The reality is even a 30,000 BTU system may be too big because the evaporator and condenser fans themselves suck a lot of power so while it makes sense to use the same system for driving and parking a whole lot of engineering will be needed, and then you will have a system with no backup if something fails.
I’ll stick with my OTR and 4 Cruiseairs which can be repaired with off the shelf components.

The ironic part of my smart phone purchase was that I was forced to do that because the only way I could see the discounted fuel prices was on an app. It pisses me off to realize the entire world expects everyone to be able to access apps.
But like my flip phone, the only time I turn it on is when I want to make a call or look at the fuel discount app.

This is the only place I spend PC time right now and I am challenged by my phone so it is safe to say new stuff is intimidating. However my initial displeasure has been erased because even I can quickly identify new discussions and even respond if I feel the need to do so.
I have not explored the site and may not, but if the rest of the site is as easy for me to use as the forum it should not be difficult.
I cannot speak to the potential issues looming for the old site, but I can comment on how difficult it is keeping a site functioning as technology advances. Joe Holt spent a lot of time behind the scenes making use of the site and access to the site easy on the multitude of devices and platforms that were emerging. I even had to give up my no camera, no voice mail, no texting flip phone to get a smart phone to replace it. Times change.

Another example of a problem the designers could have addressed if they had to live with and service the products they design. This is not a criticism of any one coach manufacturer but of them all in that with such limited production it is the customer that becomes the quality control department.

Mark, I thought about the heat issue last night and I cannot explain why the isolator would get hot.
I don’t know your coach so I can only relate to mine. My isolator is nothing more than a one way valve. It lets electric flow only in one direction. Very little current flow should occur if the batteries are charged. If they are deeply discharged then the current flow amps up a lot so that would create heat.
You might want to not only measure temps, but use an ohm meter and verify current flow only in one direction. Other than that I got nothing, the story of my life.

Mark, my isolator is just above the engine so if it gets hot I never was aware. Apparently heat is not going to affect it I hope.
To determine how hot it is getting drive a while and shoot the temps with the temp sensing gun, then after sitting a while, like overnight and shoot them again. All that isolator is supposed to do is to stop current flow from one battery bank or source from passing into another. That prevents one set of dead batteries from sucking the power out of the other set. On my Liberty one alternator charges house and chassis batteries, but draining power from one set will not discharge the other set.

I am confused as to why there is concern of dropping parts into the black tank. Doesnt the flapper simply let the waste into the small pressure chamber which can only get to the black tank after air pressure is applied? The discharge is also 6 inches above the flapper. What am i missing?

Michael: If you were just a tire kicker I might understand a reluctance to follow up with you on your questions and plans. But you are not. You have more years of bus ownership and experience than the average buyer and that seems to me makes you a serious prospect.
Telling of lies is widespread in my current experience. Maybe converters have more business than they need, and sellers of used coaches also seem to be acting like they don’t need customers.

Hey Jon, I feel your pain …
September 15th, 2024 – I began a search for a new bus too. I contacted four conversion companies asking them what I thought were basic questions about the different systems on their coaches, dimensions and tank volumes.
While three converters responded within the week, one told me a few “white lies” to get me interested in their company and NO ONE answered all of my questions.
They still haven’t.
Seriously, four converters who have youtube videos posted where they talk about their systems and volumes, gave me different numbers than they talk about in their videos. Only one could provide details of their house systems and no one could provide me dimension data. I had to contact Prevost, three times, and Prevost finally answered my dimension questions.
It turns out, I knew more about the coaches they were selling than their own sale people. My search began six months ago and I still do not have all my questions answered. They all must have lost my email address and phone number, because I have not heard from anyone in four months now.
Like you, I’m not begging someone to take my money, especially when they have little to no product knowledge. I’m supposed to trust people like that to repair my new coach and honor a warranty ?
Good thing my current coach is a keeper.

So very sorry to hear this news. Condolences to Jeff’s family. He will be missed.
